^^It would matter. There's a huge difference between a pitcher going 3 or 6/7 innings - For the latter, you pretty much get to select from JP, League, Wilson and Jansen, and they get the job done. |

Only if the team didn't score more runs than the pitcher gave up. Even if he went 6/7 innings this time and just gave up the 4, our bullpen would still muck it up. Don't forget, other than JP, the other 3 have been more prone to bad outings than good ones. _________________ http://media.giphy.com/media/zNyBPu5hEFpu/giphy.gif

Well looks like the freakin' giants are gonna win. Phillies blew god knows how many chances tonight.
And since Haren will likely be pitching home run derby, tomorrow doesn't look too good . |

You can hate the Giants all you want, but they have been WAY more clutch than us in tie/trailing games. |

Oh I know they're more clutch than us.
The fact that I hate them doesn't take that away.
Just patiently waiting for both are pitching and hitting to consistently show up. |

Hopefully today's finale against Pittsburgh doesn't end up being a trap game. It'd be nice if we could finally show up against the Giants, as this ain't April. _________________ 1996-2016

Quote: | Pitching issues are clear for Dodgers
PITTSBURGH -- Many of the Los Angeles Dodgers' top scouts and front-office types, including pro scouting director Rick Ragazzo, were in Pittsburgh the past two nights with the major league team watching the Dodgers from an upper-level suite. They had a bird's-eye view of what their next week figures to look like: traveling the country looking at pitchers.
It's not as if their mandate going into the July 31 trade deadline wasn't clear before Tuesday night. General manager Ned Colletti has stated he's looking for bullpen help and he has admitted lately he's concerned about issues at the back of the rotation as well.
It would be hard to argue with those two needs after Tuesday night's 12-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Trailing by one run in the eighth inning after a game effort from his offense, manager Don Mattingly allowed reliever Chris Perez to walk four straight batters to force in a run, because he's wary of running his only reliable eighth-inning pitcher, J.P. Howell, into the ground.
Howell leads Dodgers relievers with 46 appearances and Mattingly implied Howell would only be used in games the Dodgers lead.
"We've kind of had to make some decisions with that back end of our bullpen," Mattingly said. "We can't go to him every day."
In an ideal world or even a well-functioning one, you wouldn't have to. You would have more than one good option, an ace lefty like Howell and a reliable righty -- which is what Brian Wilson and Perez were supposed to be, by the way. Tuesday didn't expose the Dodgers' lack of bullpen depth, it exposed their lack of bullpen quality. |

What a nightmare - 2nd game in a row we walk in a run. Pitt up 2-0, 2 outs in the 1st inning. |

I've been defending Haren as a #5 but I'm done.
Worthless. |

Cut his ass, and let Maholm pitch #5. It's (bleep) done. |

I don't even think Crapuano was this bad, and he was terrible. |

When do we call up Lee from AAA? Haren is done. Send him to the pen for long relief or something and DFA Perez while we're at it. Ned needs to get off his chair and do something. |

Cap would have good games here and there. Haren went from average to beyond bad in a few months. |

Argh. It's so hard to tell with our pitchers in AAA because Albuquerque is worse than Denver.
This team is in a real bind right now. We need to do something without getting rid of our big 3 prospects. |

We might have to go with Maholm as the 5th pitcher and bench Haren. Or maybe go after Ian Kennedy in a trade without giving up prospects. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold. |

Haren was pretty good in April, average in May/June (low 4's ERA), but in July, holy cow, he's got a 9.64 ERA and is allowing an opponent average of .358. Yikes. |

Wonder what he was doing differently in April when he had a 2.03 ERA. |

The worst part is that we're going against a crappy pitcher! 1-7, with a near-5 ERA. Can't even take advantage of that. |
