Lakers should offer him 1 season max.

While I think the suns match. It would line him up to be non restricted the following season. Maybe a player option max the following season.

44. What is restricted free agency?

Quote:

When a restricted free agent wants to sign with another team, the player and team sign an offer sheet, the principal terms of which the original team is given three days to match. The offer sheet must be for at least two seasons (not including option years).

How is it possible to sign him to an offer sheet for one season?

The point in the offer would be the Lakers hoping the suns don't match a short term max deal. If they do, you then have access to him the following season.

If I was the Lakers... I might persue Deng with the same concept (not that he's restricted. But create a window after Kobe's contract is up.

For a guy who just suffered a knee injury, why wouldn't he want the longer contract and guarantee?

I quoted from Larry Coon's NBA Salary Cap FAQ that the offer sheet must be for at least two seasons. You completely ignored it and continued with the idea that it can be an offer sheet for one season.

You must be right and Larry Coon is wrong.

The player option would qualify was a second year would it not?

Bledsoe, Hayward, Monroe

All guys I would LOVE for us to have on our team. All restricted. All will have any offers matched. All will return to their respective teams.

Why is a guy who has ended two straight seasons with knee injuries someone we should be overpaying?

Ask me after the draft, because the player we get would determine who to pursue in FA or trade.

Forgot about Monroe. If we can't retain Pau on the cheap, I'd love to get Monroe. I think he's underrated.

I doubt many players on this years roster will return other than the obvious

Good to see that Bledsoe has returned and will finish the season. Not doing so might have cost him a lot of cash.

Or, he is playing hurt so he gets the cash. Didn't he have his meniscus cut so he didn't have to sit out (meaning more likely he has a knee problem soon)?

Damn he had his meniscus removed? That sucks.

I'd still sign him if possible, but I'd think twice about a second contract after that.

I didn't realize he had that done. So there goes the cushion, guy is damaged goods.
