When Gasol retires will he be mentioned among Lakers great Centers - Mikan, Wilt, Kareem, Shaq?

Pau Gasol basically played Center full time 2 of the 3 years we made it to the NBA Finals and won 2 rings. But he was also basically playing Center to close out quarters too in all those 3 years.

Will his legacy be known as a Laker's great Center, PF?, or just great 'big man'?

Interesting question. I think he will certainly be remembered as a great Lakers "big". I guess only time will tell with the center thing.

Should be.

If he wins another ring, will be.

no.

those guys were superstars....

and those players were at some point the best player on the their championship teams.....

Pau at one point was probably the top 3 PFs in the league, but never really at the superstar level i think and never the best player on the team.

I love Pau, great guy, great player, better than D12 as player, team player, a guy to remember as a Laker champion, jersey retired BUT ... he´s not in the same league as Mikan, Wilt, Kareem and Shaq cause in one way or another they where just great, dominant and powerfull forces.

I wont take anything from Pau, but the caliber of those guys are beyond great players level they are the all time best.

Pau dominated Dwight Howard in 09 and Garnett in 10, as well as his foes in the series before that.

Go watch game 7 vs the celtics again. You'll understand.

One of the best big men to ever play the game. While he probably won't be getting a statue, he'll most likely get his number retired.

He's definitely going to have his jersey retired, and the impact he's had, based on our transition from a mediocre team to an elite, championship team after his arrival, is arguably as big as any of the other legendary Laker big men, but skill wise, he's just a tier lower than them. He should be considered a Laker "great" though, because of how much he's meant to this team.

His jersey deserves to be hanging in the rafters.

Decent question. It likely depends on if he makes the Hall or not. Hall = Rafters, despite how incredibly horrid the Hall is run. Why the Lakers attach their rafters and decision making to such a flawed entity escapes me.

NO, he only had two good years with us, during those two, only one standout playoff. and the players OP mentioned, they could dominate and carry the team by themselves. on many occasion when Kobe went down with injuries during Pau's tenure here, he was not able to do that.

If Pau Gasol was on any other team, he'd be known as 1 of their all time great bigs. But since this is the Lakers, we're just too great to be just good.

Say if Gasol was a Houston Rocket, he'd be just 2nd best big just a step down the Hakeem Olajuwon level with both their 2 rings, but Gasol would definitely surpass Yao Ming, Hayes, and Sampson already.

Yes, he stopped being hungry after the 2 chips but Shaq only has one more than him as a Laker.

You're right, he's not in the same league as Mikan. . .he's a hell of a lot better.

I'd agree, too. Who else is in the Worthy club? Wilkes? Baylor?

Another question: Have the Lakers retired all their HOFer jerseys? Is Pau a retire-able jersey?

Yes and yes.

Wilkes is. Baylor is in the tier above.
