anyone getting tired of Bill? listening to Ireland on the radio and he's a whole lot better. any chance we replace Bill with Ireland any time soon?
bill is a lot better than most the other hometown play-by-plays you hear on nbatv, but thats really not saying much. |

| Personally I still don't see how the org considered bill an upgrade over joel. Not that I'm a huge joel fan, but bill isn't any better. |

yea, Joel grew on me...had that golden voice and legit basketball knowledge. still one of the best play-by-plays in the league with the Pelicans. Bill just reads stats off a paper the entire game. don't get me wrong, he has some redeeming qualities in his passion and easy-going approach.. but as KeepItRealOrElse said, Ireland is official. We need to get him on TimeWarner. |

Spero Dedes was next in line after Joel, but he left for NY so I guess they needed a replacement quickly and just decided to go with it and let Billy Mac have a full time role. Would've loved to have Spero doing commentary. After Chick and Saunderland, he was probably the best commentator we've had. |

| How did we let go of Spero Dedes... That guy is a stud play by play guy. Macdonald is embarrassing to listen to. He is just awful. |

a bit of a homer is only bad a handful of times a game, Billy is bad the whole game every call - it sounds like a family member is calling the game,silence really is a better alternative.

Listening to radio broadcasts is going to be way better than listening to a tv broadcast. It is just how it will be. You will always hear about teams tv broadcasters being compared to radio broadcasters, radio broadcasters have to tell you more because you aren't watching.
When Bill MacDonald is replaced eventually, we will see people talk about how radio guy x is better than tv guy y. |

Sadly, you're right. We even experienced it firsthand with Joel going from radio where I thought he was solid to TV where I thought he was mediocre because he would cover less of what was happening on the court. People who grew up on Chick still want a true play-by-play guy like a radio commentator and not just a TV broadcaster like you see on a nationally televised game or these days on local NBA broadcasts where the broadcaster only covers 1/3 to 1/2 of what's actually happening on the court. |

Ireland is a terrible homer on his show but when he is actually calling the game, he is much less of a homer than Billy or Stu. He is pulling for the Lakers of course like a home team announcer is supposed to but he respects the opponents and doesn't hate on them like Stu does. |

Agreed. I've reach the point of irrational dislike of Bill's call style. From the way he uses his voice and his inflections and expressions and how he talks like he knows what he's talking about (dude never played anything from what I can find online).
I can't even really articulate what it is, I just don't care for him.
I like Ireland's play by play a lot and MUCH more than I like his interviews. They need to move Ireland to the booth and let Trudell handle all the Pre & post-game interviews.
