His game calling has grown on me. When the Lakers are playing great, he says so. When they're playing bad, he says so. It's a simple concept but it works for me.
On TV, I am always looking forward to the halftime and postgame shows so James Worthy can come on and provide some meaningful commentary. With Billy and Stu, they can be losing by 30 but Billy will celebrate every shot like a go ahead basket in a game 7 while Stu comments that every play the Lakers made was run to perfection, especially if a bounce pass was involved. It's just meaningless fluff and they have no clue what is going on.
In addition, since Ireland is doing the TV game calling, he will hopefully be unavailable for the postgame interviews that he is so terrible at. Maybe they can hire a new intern for those.
I soured on Ireland.
He thinks he's funny, when he's not.
When the Lakers play poorly, his emotions show too much in his play by play.
And many times he ignores the play by play and starts talking about something else. You can get away with that on TV, by not on the radio, John. We can't see anything and we go off of what you're saying so stick to the play by play!

Noticed this as well. He starts lauding the greatness ofplays made by the other team and making snide comments about LA. Plus he's not good with his reset timing (giving the audience score/time/player updates) _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night.
It's the same with Billy, though. When the Lakers are stinking it up, Billy starts sounding really annoyed. And he's always making snide remarks about the other team like the current Laker team is the number one seed or something.
The TWC game broadcast is already borderline unwatchable because the team sucks. John Ireland's brand of elitist arrogant homerism doing the play by play just might be the nail in the coffin for me. I could see it pushing me to take Dantoni up on his offer and look for something else to occupy my time.
I used to be a fan of the radio show but it seemed like after getting bumped from the afternoon drive slot by Max and Marcellus, he reinvented himself as an annoying blowhard and the show has become unlistenable. It would be a mistake to allow that to spread to TWC.
Bill and Stu are doing an acceptable job. _________________ IM THE GREATEST HITTER IN THE WORLD!!!1!
im actually impressed by irelands play by play. i thought he would have been downright terrible when i heard he was announced. but im soured by his kiss ass personality on the radio show. he'd be better than billy, thats for sure. but i think we can still do better.

HATER ALERT.
Love billy and stu, stop hating, they're not the reason we are losing. If you don't like the show CHANGE THE CHANNEL. _________________ They who endure, conquer. Kobe Bryant 34-48 2004-2005.
anything other than Stu and billy. Those two are crazy boring and repetitive. and as another poster mentioned Stu is argumentative. Chick would have put both in check. It's not the world championship BIlly so calm down. And Stu you need to retire already.
Plus lakers already have Michael T and John I to cover. We need new talent like we do with our team.
