Meh, really disappointed so far. The characters (especially Vaughn) just don't seem right and the show is slow as molasses. Hopefully they pick it up, but not much season left to do so, in my opinion.

It is slow. Only thing left is what's going to happen in the end.

Paul's finally been outed.

When will the revelation that Ray's son is or is not his drop? He killed the wrong man.

Ani's connection with her father has me intrigued. Not much of a series, just enough to keep me coming back.

E5 has been the best ep of the season so far (which isn't saying much)
But things are starting to pick up. . .

The writing in this show is terrible. One dimensional characters, character motivation doesn't make sense. Probably going to stop watching now. Just started watching The Sopranos for the first time yesterday, and the difference in quality compared to TD s02 is like night and day.

Thanks. I've already seen The Wire and Breaking Bad in their entirety, and a lot of people put The Sopranos up there with those two, so I guess I'll see for myself. So far so good.

Yup. I started late too (2011) but it holds up really well. It's in my top 3 favorite shows of all time.

I smirk when I watch Vince Vaughn play a gangster in the series. He always brings to mind Roger "Raji" Lowenthal from the comedy Be Cool staring John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Danny DeVito.

I wonder if there will be a True Detective III? The story lines have some interest. I don't like the casting.

At least the finale teaser looks promising. I hope the Direct TV guy gets it in the end.

Valar Morghulis was the motto of the finale.

The finale was twilight zone. All season no one knew if Ray was the father. Season finale we find out he was. SMH. I don't think there will be a 3rd season.

The season was very good starting at the shootout all the way through to the season finale. The one big weak point of the season was Vince Vaughn's wife.

Me too. First time I've read feedback about the second season, I was pretty shocked when I found out it wasn't as well received as season 1.

Then again, I was also shocked that anyone liked the Daredevil series. I mean what the hell.

I'm doing something dangerous spoiler wise by posting here, but can anyone tell me if it's worth going through this season given the terrible reviews the finale is getting?

I watched the premier episode but stopped after that due to some binging on other shows.

Yes. I really don't understand the complaints myself.

I would say you should watch it. Myself I liked True Detective Season 2 because I took it for what it was .... a new story line with new characters.

I think the general issue is Season 1 was A+, Phenomenal, Amazing etc

So you know Season 2 had NO CHANCE to live up to such lofty expectations.

Personally I would give Season 2 a letter grade of B-

I'm just speculating because I honestly have no idea why the criticism, but I think it also has something to do with it being different. It lost some of its horror tones but I found the suspense was kicked up a notch. To me it was just a different flavor. I liked it.

S1 was A but though at 1st I'd agreed with s2 being a B-, further thought I give it a C-. C is average not good not bad, so C- feels right.

I'd say don't watch it. Why waste limited time (only 24 hours in a day right) on even a B- show with the other good options? After Vaughn was cast, I set my expectations pretty low and treated s2 on its own merits...which were not much. Acting and story mostly weak. Binge on other shows (or life). I still haven't even seen 1 ep of Breaking Bad yet.

I thought it was going to be a better finale because I saw last couple episodes better than all the earlier ones. Not disappointed I stuck with it, because I just wanted to see the characters end up and I didn't mind some of the action scenes.

Hope season 3 has no tie to s2 or even s1.
Wishlist Cast - John Hawkes (sol from deadwood, and evil cult leader in a movie)
Kim Dickens also Deadwood, Treme
rila fukushima from Wolverine
erica tazel from Deadwood
margo martindale
Lots of women for a change.

Whose acting in particular was weak?

Season Two was pretty damn good. Was I lost often? Yep. Was it hard keeping track of who was whom? Yep. Was it a fine modern example of film noir. Absolutely. Does this mean that we can cut a little slack about the pace or the acting? Sure, the genre certainly accepts this. Was the cinematography, especially the aerials, often spectacular? Most certainly. Do I now have a new respect and appreciation for Rachel McAdams? That's a huge affirmative; I'll never see her the same again. Can I make just one comparison to season one as I've heard about two hundred too many, and the only real similarity is the title?

Well I'm gonna, so that's another yes: The ending was near perfect, even better than Season One.
