I'm told there have been no discussions between Kings & Gay's reps about extension that is possible. Then again, I was told that 3 hours ago |

Quote: | Rudy Gay Unsure About $19.3M Option For 14-15
Rudy Gay and the Sacramento Kings have not held discussions about a contract extension.
Gay has played well since being traded to the Kings and tied a career-high of 41 points in the Kings' win on Tuesday over the New Orleans Pelicans.
Gay has a $19.317 million player option on his contract for the 14-15 season and is eligible to negotiate an extension.
Gay has a True Shooting Percentage of .617 during the month of January. |

He'd be completely idiotic to not pick up that option. No way he's getting close to that in Free Agency. |

What better player to mentor the next Rudy Gay than Rudy Gay himself? Do it, Mitch. _________________ Lakers. Galaxy. Spurs. |

He's actually played very well in Sacramento and they have around a .500 record (at least on their standards) with him since the trade. He's far more efficient averaging 61% TS% since coming over to the Queens.
As someone who viewed Gay as a team cancer, it seems he found an ideal situation for him.
Btw, there is a good chance he can make more than 19M with his new contract, it'll just be spread out over a few years. Long term money > Short term money.
If he ever gets offered something like 30/4 than it may entice him. |

30/4 sounds like a horrible deal. If I'm sure he can get at least 10-12 mil per year. _________________ "It was tough," Kobe Bryant said. "But when it got really tough for me, I just checked myself in." |

Hmmmm ... not very good business peeps here.
Option 1 - stay on for 1 more year at $19.3M and risk an injury
OR
Option 2 - exercise your opt out and look for another 4-5 yr deal worth $60-70M or worse case scenario settle for a 3 yr $40-45M deal _________________ #11/08/16 America became GREAT again

If he opted out, who would you give more money to - Gasol or Gay? |

Other than hating Sacramento so much he's willing to leave millions on the table, there's no reason not to exercise the option. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel |

I think so too, I was just mentioning one of the worst case scenarios for him. He can easily net more than 20M for the remainder of his career. He's playing the best ball of his career right now, and I doubt it's going to get any better.
If he opts in, he risks not only injury, but he risks a lowered potential future contract since if he's not able to maintain his current production. The latter situation is very likely though since Rudy Gay prior to this season averaged a very unimpressive 52.6 TS% since his rookie year with his best year at only 54.8 TS %.
Since he's averaging 60% TS% right now and having great chemistry with the team, it would probably be his best option to opt out. Regardless of whether he likes (lol) or hates Sacramento. |

What team would be dumb enough to give him even your worst case scenario? Dude has been in a huge decline for years, are teams really stupid enough to take a month and a half of rejuvenated play as enough to give him another monster contract? |

Rudy Gay meshing with Cousins and Thomas reminds me of when Webber, Divac and Williams started playing together. It seems to be a perfect fit, very complimentary to each other. He does like Sacramento, after all it is California, but that doesn't mean he stays. He does know it's a good fit for him. More like when he played at Memphis. The attention Cousins gets which is a lot of double teams leaves Rudy free. And it's not too early to recognize the influence Michael Malone has. |

First thought was why would he opt out. However we all thought Richard Jefferson was crazy for opting out of his big final year with the Spurs, but he ended up getting a big contract for multiple years. Lesser per year than the year he opted out of. If he waited one more season he probably would have been looked at more as a MLE type play than a $10mil per year type player. Hes still getting overpaid to this day.
Gay is shooting 50% from the field with the Kings. Seems to be fitting it well. If he finishes the season strong who knows this might be his last chance to con a big long deal out of someone. |

Maybe so, but that would be more an indictment of whatever idiot GM gives him a huge contract than one against me. Idiots gave Joe Johnson a max contract after a horrendous choke job in the playoffs, and Josh Smith 12+ million a year. Maybe there will be another idiot to pay Rudy Gay, despite teams doing better after getting rid of him. |
