Quote:
Trade Gasol to the Suns for Okafor + Picks
Draft Embiid
Trade to get Exum (Nash + Marshall + Picks)
Sign Melo in the Off-Season
Resign Bench to Vet Min (Henry, Farmar, Blake, Johnson, Hill)
Waive Sacre or Let Kelly go (If MDA is still coach that's an easy choice)
Resign Okafor to Vet Min
Gasol contract ends in Pheonix - Goes to play in Europe for Big Bucks

Play the Most of the Season with This Roster

Code:
Blake/Farmar
Kobe/Exum
Henry/Young
Melo/Johnson/Kelly
Embiid/Okafor/Hill

Sign Gasol for returning from Barcelona for the Vet Min through the end of the season

Then play with this team to build a dynasty
Code:
Blake/Farmar
Kobe/Exum
Melo/Young/Henry/Johnson
Gasol/Hill/Kelly
Embiid/Okafor

That's what I call a championship core Kobe-Melo-Exum-Embiid plus complementary point guards and lots of swing-men.

Quote:
-Blake and Farmar are good Point Guards
-Exum and Kobe can both run the show at point
-Young and Henry both play SG and SF
-Melo and Wes can both swing to the PF position
-Gasol and Hill can play C and can rebound - Gasol has the post threat
-Embiid and Okafor both protect the rim

It's a pipe dream but if you saw how we got Magic in the first place. Anything's possible.

So all we need is two top 3 picks and Melo to come.

Here's a better plan. Assume that salary cap is $60 million each year.

2014

Lakers trade Gasol for Okafor and a pick around the 12 range.
Lakers sign Lance Stephenson to a 3 year deal for $8 million each year. Player option to opt out in 3rd year.
Lakers sign Rudy Gay to multi-year deal starting at $12 million.
Lakers have Kobe, Nash, Sacre, Stephenson, Gay, and 2 rookies under contract that take up $59.4 million. Fill roster out with 1 year deals.

2015
Trade Stephenson, Gay, and 2014 12th pick to Cavs for Kyrie. Kyrie signs a multi-year deal starting at $15 million. Lakers have only Kobe, Sacre, 2014 5th pick, and Irving on books for $45 million. This leave them with enough cap room to sign Love to a multi-year deal starting at $15 million. Sign another role player using the full-mid level. Sign other players to 1 year deals.

2016
Kobe retires and only the 2014 5th pick, Irving, Love, and full mid-level player are on roster totaling $42 million. Lakers can go after another big free agent and role players.

You guys are doing it wrong.

Lakers trade Gasol to Phoenix for Okafor and their 1st Round pick.
Gasol retires.
Phoenix misses the playoffs and their pick ends up being just outside the protection.
Lakers wind up with the #2 and #13 picks.
Lakers draft Embiid with the #2 and Exum falls to #13 courtesy of the efforts of Rob Pelinka
Miami loses embarassingly to BRK in the 1st round
Lebron signs with us
Bryatn returns to form on par with last year
Nash retires

2014-2015 Roster:
Exum
Bryant
Johnson
James
Embiid

Pau un-retires and returns to come off the bench for the min

Now THAT's how you post pipe

There is a bit of rounding, but the numbers should be fairly close.

A) Kobe + Melo + Nash Buyout = $49 million

B) Embiid + Exum = $7 million (or higher)

A + B = $56 million

There would be room for minimum salary players and then a Room Exception. Maybe a few dollars more more than the minimum for a few, but the Salary cap would need to come in on the high side of expectations.

Other than the one Lucky Guy getting the Room Exception, the following players would all need to sign for about the minimum.

Blake
Farmar
Hill
Henry
Young
Johnson
Okafor
Hill

I am very skeptical of that happening.

If the events surrounding Magic joining the Lakers had happened recently, then I could give some consideration to lightning striking again. Since that was well over three decades ago, I am giving it a very low weighting in regards to what is possible.

My fav part is that Okafor, at age 31, will sign here for the vet minimum to be a backup.

Gasol is traded for Okafor and a 1 st round pick. Okafor not re-signed at end of the year.

Nash retires or is bought out, possibly traded in last year of deal to Toronto, so he can play out and retire playing for Canada.

Basically minimum deals offered to guys expiring this year. Nick Young is the possible exception, offered maybe $3 million and could be the starting SF or 6th man backing up SG - SF spots. Sort of the Jamall Crawford role.

Lakers try to pry either Bledsoe, Stephenson, or Lowry loose. Lakers go for a bigman for future building of team in the draft.

Lakers thus try not to fix everything at once, save room so they can sign Kevin Love in 2015.

I have a better one! Get Embiid in the draft, then convince Melo and Lebron to come here for peanuts. Then in next summer do the same with Love, and finally the cherry on the cake, bring Durant in when Kobe expires.

Embiid -c
Love - pf
Durant - sf
Melo - sg
Lebron - pg

we win the next 5 titles in a row winning over 75 games every season.
Dream big or don't dream at all!

Fire Sale

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mtkclem

Lakers get under the luxury tax threshold and they get draft picks from OKC and Phoenix.

Even better, Okafor hasn't stepped onto the court this season and his prognosis for future basketball is muddy.

I went to law school when Okafor, Gordon, etc. were playing at UCONN and I heard rumors that he had a 3.9 GPA in accounting. I think the chances he becomes a CPA are higher than him resuming his NBA career.

Trade absolutely nothing for Kyrie
Same with KLove
Draft Wiggins
Trade for Pau for Marc.

PG: Kyrie
SG: Kobe
SF: Wiggins
PF: KLove
C: Marc Gasol

2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 NBA Champions

Because some people think others teams work all together so the Lakers can win it all.
