Quote:
Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) has agreed to acquire Time Warner Cable Inc. for about $159 a share in an all-stock deal, combining the largest two U.S. cable companies, according to four people familiar with matter.
The deal will be announced tomorrow morning, according to the people, who asked not to be named because the negotiations have been private.
Charter Communications Inc. (CHTR), the fourth-largest U.S. cable company, had offered about $132.50 a share to Time Warner Cable’s management, a bid that was rejected. Charter announced it had nominated a slate of directors earlier this week to replace Time Warner Cable’s board members if a deal couldn’t be reached.
Time Warner Cable had asked for $160 a share in its counterproposal to Charter.
Comcast is the worst company in America. Hopefully this doesn't affect sportsnet.
I've been thinking about cancelling my cable altogether.
I find it's more enjoyable to spend time on my computer/tablet/PS3.
Only thing that had me excited was all-Lakers channel... but we know how the past two seasons have turned out. _________________ Lakers. Built different.

apparently this doesn't pertain to Laker discussion see how this situation goes
Won't change anything about their TV rights...Comcast will take whatever obligations TWC had when they signed their TV contract with the Lakers. I think it will effect the current TWC customers and their level of TV/internet service considering they will have a monopoly on cable service within the US.

of course but still there will be changes in how we watch the Lakers. Time warner sucked but they put things into the network, will comcast put in that extra camera or extra show? Production values etc. They own a bunch of rsn's they might not even care about it.
Wishing that some way they're was a opt-out for the Lakers if something like this happened, then they would just sign with ESPN and create ESPNLA network

Instead of TWC they will have a Comcast logo...I doubt they will add anything, considering they are inheriting the two most expensive sports rights fees in the Lakers and Dodgers. I'd be more worried about cutting production costs since they are paying a lot of money for TWC.
I think it is Comcast that owns the rights to the Rockets and the Rox fans hate them. Even last year they were charging customers for Rockets home games.

I read an article that something like 60% of Houston doesn't even get Rockets games.
I think Comcast actually enforces their caps on their internet.....so sucks for those people who used to have TWC internet service.
Damn that would really suck. In my area the only internet providers I can find are Time Warner which chargers a lot even for the low speed packages. And AT&T uverse which only offers service at 768Kbps download at my address which I wouldn't even consider especially since they only even offer that if you take a 1 year contract.
I currently have time warner which im not thrilled about to begin with. I shudder to think it could actually get worse.
I think like 10 years ago comcast is what was offered at my address before Time Warner took over here. And it seemed fine then I had it for a year or two, but if they are doing download caps now then that is horrible. I regularly download stuff and Netflix is often used in my household a download cap does not sound pleasant.

I think they will dump some territories to Charter to pass FCC approval, but I don't see why they would let the 2nd biggest media market go to Charter. I can see them letting some areas in the middle of nowhere go to Charter.
I was force into TWC internet since I moved 4 months ago, It has worked out ok so far but I use a lot of data so I really hope they don't enforce a cap.

yeah they filed for bankruptcy and people were not getting paid that's a mess
anybody have a good guess on how long before something will actually change when things like this happen?
i know we still gotta wait for FCC but how long after that?
