I'm a bit annoyed by the lack of fanfare in the national media re. this signing. Even if he had a bit of a down year last year, he's one of the better corners in the game and is a very recognizable name. Yet, barely worthy of a mention on ESPN. If the Donkeys or Niners got him, you could bet your bottom dollar the analysts would be salivating and picking apart the signing to death.

because no one cares about the Chargers. being a Raider fan i agree with you, seems like Denver is the only team in our division from the media coverages.

I care about the Chargers...

Honestly, I'm a little surprised regarding the lack of fanfare this signing got, mainly for 2 reasons.

1. We were a playoff team last year even with a terrible secondary, and added pro-bowl caliber talent at a reasonable cost.

2. We did so at the expense of a division rival, who were also a playoff team last year.

Like you though, I'm also a little tired of the media swinging from Denver's nuts...

Justin Blackmon arrested for marijuana possession

Justin Blackmon, the talented but troubled Jaguars receiver who is currently serving an indefinite suspension for substance-abuse violations, has been arrested again.

Blackmon was arrested for possession of marijuana Wednesday night in Edmond, Oklahoma, according to Channel 6 News in Tulsa.

Police say Blackmon was initially pulled over for a traffic violation and officers could smell marijuana coming from his car. They searched, found marijuana and took Blackmon into custody.

Blackmon has previously been arrested twice for drunk driving.

The Jaguars spent the fifth overall pick on Blackmon in the 2012 NFL draft. He showed promise as a rookie but was suspended indefinitely after playing just four games in 2013. Even before this arrest the Jaguars were not counting on him to play for them at all this year, and his inability to stay out of trouble raises questions about whether he’ll ever play in the NFL again.

Rough couple of days for the Broncos

Quote:
Demaryius Thomas to miss start of Broncos camp after death in family

The Broncos will not have wide receiver Demaryius Thomas on the field when they start training camp on Thursday, but there are no injury concerns or contract squabbles for the team to worry about.

Thomas has been excused from Broncos camp until Monday so that he can return to Georgia to attend funeral services for his grandmother. Thomas was at the team’s facility for meetings and a physical on Wednesday, but coach John Fox said Thursday, via ESPN.com, that Thomas “is where he needs to be” and that the team’s prayers are with him.

Thomas is coming off a pair of excellent seasons catching passes from Peyton Manning and has caught 240 passes for 3,698 yards over four years with the Broncos. That’s put him in line for a big new contract with his current deal expiring after this season and the two sides have been talking about an extension. The missed time this week shouldn’t have any impact on either Thomas’ play or the contract talks.

PFT offers our condolences to Thomas and his family on their loss.

How the hell does Rice get 2 games for knocking his fiancé unconscious but Gordon gets probably a whole season for smoking weed(before the idiot got the DUI too, which will definitely keep him out for 2014 season)?

Does the NFL really think smoking weed is worse than assault and battery? SMH

Quote:
Marshawn Lynch will be holding out

The Seahawks managed to coax running back Marshawn Lynch to show up for a mandatory minicamp amid concerns he would hold out. Now, Lynch won’t be showing up for training camp.

Former teammate Michael Robinson, who’s currently working for NFL Network, said on the air moments ago that Lynch said he’ll hold out.

The move exposes Lynch to $30,000 per day in fines, along with (after five days) partial forfeiture of his $6 million signing bonus.

In 2012, Lynch signed a four-year, $30 million contract. He’s due to earn $5.5 million in 2014, with a cap number of $7 million.

The move comes a day after the Chiefs bumped the 2014 pay of Jamaal Charles from $3.9 million to $8.3 million, via a two-year extension that puts him under contract for four years, $28 million.

Lynch’s holdout represents the first significant negative development for the defending Super Bowl champions, who gave long-term contracts in the offseason to safety Earl Thomas and cornerback Richard Sherman.

For the second year in a row, the Colts are going to have to make it through a season without Vick Ballard. The running back suffered a torn Achilles during a non-contact drill in practice on Friday, according to ESPN.com. Ballard is expected to miss the entire 2014 season.

Ballard stormed onto the scene as a rookie in 2012, leading the Colts in rushing with 814 yards. Indianapolis had high hopes for Ballard in 2013, but the former fifth-round pick only played in one game thanks to a torn ACL he suffered during practice following Indy's Week 1 win over the Raiders.

The injury on Friday occurred after Ballard caught a pass in a non-contact drill. According to the Colts official website, the 24-year-old then went down clutching his left leg and was unable to put any weight on it as he was helped off the field.

Ballard's injury means either Trent Richardson or Ahmad Bradshaw will have to carry the load in Indianapolis. Bradshaw is coming off of a neck injury that limited him to three games in 2013. As for Richardson, he has yet to live up to the high-hopes the Colts had for him when they sent a first-round pick to Cleveland for him in September.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/07/25/pete-carroll-on-marshawn-lynch-its-called-a-contract-for-a-reason/

Quote:
Pete Carroll on Marshawn Lynch: It’s called a contract for a reason

Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is unhappy with his contract and expressing that displeasure by staying away from training camp, an approach that General Manager John Schneider says that the team isn’t planning to give him another one with two years to go on the current pact.

Coach Pete Carroll echoed Schneider’s comments on Friday, saying that the deal they gave Lynch in 2012 was part of the organization’s long-term plan to build a winning team and that they expect Lynch to hold up his end of that contract.

“It’s a contract for a reason. We made a decision and it was signed, by us and by them,” Carroll said, via USA Today. “We expect them to honor their contract just as we will. We’re going to honor it and we expect them to do the same.”

Red Bryant, Chris Clemons and other players released by the Seahawks with time and money left on their contract would probably be interested to know that the Seahawks’ policy is to honor every contract until the moment it expires, especially since they were doing Lynch one better and showing up for work before they were cut loose. USC might feel the same way about Carroll leaving the school for the Seahawks while still under contract.

Carroll’s skewed view of the way contracts work is beside the point when it comes to the Lynch situation, though. Right now, the Seahawks have made it clear that they’ll move on with Robert Turbin and Christine Michael before giving Lynch any more money and Lynch has made it clear he won’t show up until he gets more money. Someone is going to have to change their mind if Beast Mode is going to run again this season.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – New Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cam Thomas is being sued by a San Diego woman for allegedly giving her herpes.
TMZ Sports first reported the story.
In the lawsuit, the woman named “Adrienne” claims Thomas not only gave her herpes, but also hid it from her multiple times, saying that a zipper malfunction caused the sores.
Thomas is a nose tackle who played for the San Diego Chargers last year.
TMZ says Adrienne is also claiming Thomas was physically abusive to her during their relationship.
There has been no comment from Thomas or his lawyers.

Well at least we'll finally have the answer to the question of should the Dolphins have drafted Brady Quinn back in 2007

Report: Brady Quinn signs with Dolphins

FOX can wait. And possibly not for long.

Quarterback Brady Quinn, who recently took at job handling college and pro football for FOX Sports, may not be available when football season begins. According to Jeff Darlington of NFL Network, Quinn has signed with the Dolphins.

The move puts Quinn on the team that famously passed on him in the 2007 draft with the ninth overall pick, opting instead for Ted Ginn. Quinn slid to the Browns at No. 22 that year.

It appeared he’d slide out of the NFL permanently. But the Dolphins have needs at a minimum for a camp arm. After working out Quinn, John Skelton, and Rex Grossman, the Dolphins opted to sign Quinn.

Quinn will know by August 30 whether he has won a spot on the 53-man roster.

The Dolphins become the seventh NFL team by which he has been employed. After starting off in Cleveland, Quinn has played for the Broncos, Chiefs, Seahawks, Jets, and Rams.

Ginn was a stupid reach by the morons Cam Cameron and Jeff Ireland. My draft preferences that year who weren't drafted ahead of the #9 were Revis, Willis, Staley, Quinn, Bowe. A top 10 pick wasted on a KR/PR. Not to mention they wasted a 2nd rounder on Fumble-Bumble Beck when I wanted Ugoh or Rice. (bleep) Ireland.
