143-107… This one was over quickly…but the Lakers died a very slow death.

They allowed 41 in the first quarter. Somewhere in the second quarter, it was garbage time. The Lakers gave up 111 points after three quarters and trailed by as many as 41.

“There was no fight, no resistance or anything with the Lakers tonight. They just didn’t come out with any enthusiasm,” Robert Horry said afterward.

No fight. No resistance. They lost 143-107, giving up nearly 70% shooting to the Wolves (67% to be exact).

The Lakers can’t wait for the offseason and it showed.

Hill -- -- No gas in the motor tonight. After his huge game last night, the Wolves made a more consistent effort to keep Hill from killing them. It’s a lot easier to do that when we settle for jumpers for long stretches versus attacking the paint. Hill had the team-low -38 mostly because the starters just got killed as a unit. D’Antoni started him at C in the second half with how poorly Kaman looked out the gates. The Stats: He scored 10 points on 5-12 shooting to go with 7 boards (3 offensive), 1 steal, 2 turnovers and 3 fouls in 24 minutes. He was a -38. The Action: He missed an elbow jumper. He missed a 20-footer. He brought the ball up court and threw it into the crowd trying to hit an open Meeks in the corner. He backed his man down and hit the low jumphook. He missed a flat jumphook on the spin. He missed a reverse. He missed a point-blank putback. He sank an open FT jumper. He drained a catch-and-shoot FT jumper. Second Half: He swished a 9-foot jumphook. He was picked in the post, turnover. Nash drew his man and found Hill for the easy one. He missed a short jumper in the lane.

Meeks -- -- His defense early on was just awful. No communication. No recognition of where his teammates were or where his man was during some stretches. Nick was noticeably ticked off at Meeks. Really, this was one of those back-to-back games where you are not playing for anything that Meeks decided to coast a little on D. It’s been a long season and a lot of minutes for Meeks. The team as a whole just sort of did that same thing. Offensively, he scratched some points on the break and from the line. But all of our points tonight were hollow. When you’re blown out that much, the Wolves go into garbage time mode for stretches, too. The Stats: He scored 19 points on 6-13 shooting (1-4 from three, 6-6- from the line) to go with 2 boards, 1 steal and 1 foul in 32 minutes. He was a -28. The Action: He missed a floater from 15 feet out. He missed a wing three. He couldn’t finish a reverse on the drive. He missed a 17-footer from the left wing. No box out and he gave up points on a putback, Nick was ticked. He missed a wing three on the other end. No recognition that Nick wasn’t down court yet after falling and Meeks let his man go right by him to the hoop for a dunk. He curled into the lane and scored a layup. He drew FTs out on the break, he made both. Second Half: He missed a long wing jumper. He scored a layup on the baseline backdoor play. He fell asleep on D, his man cut, took the pass and scored the layup. He swished a wing three off the Nash handoff. He drew FTs on a floater in transition, he made both. Bazemore hit him cutting for a layup. He missed a tough sideline three with a man on. He swiped the ball from his man and took it for the dunk. He attacked down the lane and drew FTs, he made both. He scored a layup out on the break.

Marshall -- -- Regression. The bagel was back. He has looked awful an awful lot lately. He couldn’t sink anything. He did nothing for the team on D. There’s no passion or leadership from him…ever. And that may be my biggest knock on him through his slump. There are always things you can control and leadership is one of them, no matter what. He’s a floor general but doesn’t know how to rally his troops. The Stats: He didn’t score on 0-6 shooting (0-4 from three) to go with 3 assists, 1 steal, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls in 15 minutes. He was a -25. The Action: He missed a three in early offense. He bricked an open pull-up 10-footer in the lane, got to hit those. Horrible decition to try to thread a pass to Hill on the two-man game when he was surrounded by three players, turnover. Another turnover in the backcourt a few seconds later. He settled and missed a long wing jumper. He missed an open wing three. He missed a wing three on a kickout. Second Half: He missed a three at the end of the quarter. He airballed a pull-up wing jumper, ugly.

Bazemore -- -- He and Nick seemed like the only guys who wanted to play ball tonight. Bazemore led the team in scoring getting back in the starting lineup and doing less PG work. I mentioned in the last game I thought D’Antoni would take the ball out of his hand from the playmaking role a little more. With Nash in the lineup tonight that allowed that to happen. Bazemore could play a little more aggressively as an SG and not have to worry so much about managing the game. Great job using his athleticism on the break for layups tonight. When he’s got the ball in open court with speed, he’s a tough cover. He elevates to finish fast, high and before the D can often react. Strong second half especially. The Stats: He scored 21 points on 9-18 shooting (1-4 from three, 2-3 from the line) to go with 4 boards, 4 assists, 3 steals, 1 block, 1 turnover and 5 fouls in 36 minutes. He was a -23. The Action: He attacked the paint and went up and under at the elbow to flip in a layup with his length. He missed a pull up from the top of the key out of a timeout. He hit Sacre rolling for a dunk. He trailed the break wisely and Nash found him for the layup. He missed a 60-footer at the buzzer. He found Sacre for the open elbow jumper. He slithered through the D and missed the layup over a help defender. He missed a 16-footer. He missed a layup but Kelly cleaned it up easily. He organized the offense, attacked and kicked to Kelly for the open three. He missed a wing three at the buzzer. Second Half: He pushed out an outlet, elevated over the D and scored a layup. He swished a 19-footer. Good transition challenge to get a stop. He drained another 19-footer from the same spot as last time. He rejected Love’s dunk attempt from behind in transition. Tight D and he forced a turnover on the pass. He threaded the needle to Meeks cutting for a layup. He swished a good look at a wing three. Great read on the perimeter and he jumped the lane on help D to swipe the pass for a dunk. He pushed out the break with speed, had the defender on his heels and scored the And-1 layup around him, he made the FT. He attacked and drew FTs, he made one. He disrupted an oop on one end, pushed it out, elevated and scored a layup.

Kaman -- -- I thought D’Antoni might bench him coming out of that last game for guys who played with some more energy. It happened in the second half after Kaman’s 6-minute, -17 opening stint. He was getting killed by Pekovic right out of the gates. No intensity, kind of going through the motions like a vet on a bottom dweller at the end of the season. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 1-2 shooting to go with 1 board, 1 steal and 1 foul in 6 minutes. He was a -17. The Action: He swiped a ball in the backcourt and hit the 15-footer. He missed a 17-footer. Second Half: He did not play in the second half.

Nash -- -- Some short minutes for Nash tonight, even getting the start in the second half to try to right the ship. Our ship was already sunk, but he was definitely playing with more life and impact that Marshall. Nash looked a little rusty with some of his reads of the game. He still led the team in assists, and the offense certainly looked more purposeful with him out there. The Stats: He scored 4 points on 2-5 shooting (0-2 from three) to go with 6 assists, 1 steal, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls in 15 minutes. He was a -11. The Action: His long outlet pass was picked off. He tried to save a rebound that was off the Wolves and he stepped on the line, turnover. He missed an easy bank after losing Rubio on a drive. He attacked baseline and set up Sacre for FTs. He pushed out the break and hit Bazemore trailing for the layup. He sank a running one-footed jumper off the screen. Second Half: He missed a three to start the half. He hit Meeks cutting on the baseline backdoor play for a layup. He got his man on his hip, probed and hit Hill for the layup. He attacked off the screen and hit the pull at the FT line. He missed a wing three. He handed off to Meeks for the wing three. He dribbled into a defender and lost the handler.

Young -- -- He didn’t have a great game, but you can tell he respects the jersey and plays with pride. When the team was making mistakes on D, Nick was one of the few to take exception with some of his teammates lack of focus. He led the team with 4 steals. Props to him for trying to hold the line on D when few would. Not something you would have normally said about Nick prior to this season. Offensively, his only makes were some threes in the first half. Sacre actually outscored him. Not sure that will happen more than once or twice a year. The Stats: He scored 11 points on 3-12 shooting (3-6 from three, 2-2 from the line) to go with 1 board, 2 assists, 4 steals and 3 fouls in 28 minutes. The Action: He ball faked and swished a wing three when the D sagged off. He missed a chuck from the wing. He drained a quick-fire wing three off the Nash handoff. Nice pass deflection on the other end to get a stop. He missed a wide open sideline three. He swished a wing three on a kickout next time down. Another pass deflection on a cutter to get a stop. He attacked the paint and drew FTs, he made both. He missed a drive and then a three on the same possession. He missed a step-back 16-footer. Second Half: He was blocked on a three. He missed a jumper.

Johnson -- -- There was a sequence where we saw Bazemore push out the break, use his athleticism and take it for an And-1 layup. Then shortly later Wes got a steal, pushed it up and settled for a missed pull-up jumper in transition. Just the difference in two players with a lot of athleticism but a big different attitude. Offensively, he did most of his damage in the second half and from the perimeter. The Stats: He scored 13 points on 6-10 shooting (1-2 from three) to go with 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 turnover and 5 fouls in 24 minutes. He was a -2. The Action: He missed a jumper from the top of the key. Dumb foul on a deep three attempt by Love at the buzzer to give up FTs. Second Half: He iso’d and swished a wing jumper. He hit a baseline jumper. He swished a pull-up wing jumper. He missed a wing three. He sank a wing jumper. He swiped a pass and missed a pull-up jumper. He missed a pull-up jumper on the break. He sank a corner three on the extra pass from Kelly. He slammed off the dish by Kelly in semi-transition.

Kelly -- -- He was a little more aggressive offensively than usual. The Lakers ended up taking 102 shots so I guess everyone got some touches. The Lakers missed their attempts with consistency, unlike the Wolves with that ridiculous 67% shooting for the game. How is that even possible? D’Antoni tried to mix things up by starting Kelly in the second half in place of Kaman. It didn’t matter. The Stats: He scored 9 points on 4-11 shooting (!-3 from three) to go with 3 boards (2 offensive), 4 assists, 1 block and 4 fouls in 24 minutes. He was a -12 The Action: He missed a three, then a 15-footer a few seconds later. He took a pass from Nash and powered in a layup. He missed a layup on the screen-roll, but Sacre slammed it down. He swatted a drive. He was swatted on a putback attempt. He tipped in a Bazemore missed layup. He sank an open three from the top of the arc off the two-man game with Bazemore. Second Half: He blew a layup in transition. Bad angle on D and he gave up a layup. He hit the bottom of the rim trying to power up while off balance in the paint. He attacked off the three line, changed direction on the dribble and flipped in the one-hander. He hit Wes on the extra pass for the corner three. He pushed out a rebound, probed the D and hit Wes cutting for the dunk. He missed a wing three.

Sacre -- :wagtonue: -- He had 6 offensive boards and just 1 defensive. That’s a sign of how efficient one team was at scoring versus the other. The Lakers actually had more offensive rebounds (14) than defensive (12). Very weird stat. Sacre played with the same consistent effort from start to finish. Wish he was more of a vocal leader on D, getting into guys, but that doesn’t seem to be his personality yet. The Stats: He scored 14 points on 6-11 shooting (2-4 from the line) to go with 7 boards (6 offensive), 1 assist and 4 fouls in 31 minutes. He was a -13. The Action: He slammed back in a missed Kelly layup. He took an interior pass from Nash and drew FTs, he made one. He dunked off the screen-roll with Bazemore. He swished an open elbow jumper. He missed a face-up baseline jumper. Second Half: He was blocked from behind in the paint. He grabbed a missed three and slammed it back in. Not close on a turnaround jumper. Good effort to regain possession twice and it led to a Laker score. He missed a short jumphook. He posted up and missed another jumphook. He scored a layup off the drive and dish from Brooks. He was fouled on a turnaround, he made one FT. He sank a face-up jumper with the shotclock low.

Brooks -- -- With 6 minutes left and it was finally MarShon Brooks time. We could have brought him in an hour ago, garbage time lasted that long. Not sure why D’Antoni waited so long. Give him some run when you’re down 30. It’s not like he’s going to muck things up. Sheesh. Offensively, he had a dunk and a layup. Defensively, he caused a turnover which led to his dunk. The Stats: He scored 4 points on 2-2 shooting to go with 1 assists, 1 steal and no fouls in 6 minutes. He was a -11. The Action: He did not play in the first half. Second Half: He attacked and set up Sacre for the layup. He reached around to knock a dribble away, then dunked on the other end when the outlet came. He iso’d and took it down the lane for a layup.

D’Antoni -- -- The Lakers quickly trailed 13-4 after a couple of transition scores and D’Antoni called timeout… Down 17-4, he brought in Nash, Young and Johnson for Marshall, Meeks and Bazemore… Then he sat Hill and Kaman. Lakers given up 26 points halfway through the quarter. This game was not going to be pretty… They sat Kelly for Bazemore and slid Wes to PF… Love and Pekovic had 27 points combined in the first quarter… The Lakers trailed 41-24 after the first… He started a Sacre, Hill, Young, Meeks, Bazemore unit… Down 23, he brought in Marshall for Bazemore… The Lakers were doubled up 60-30 with 5 minutes left in the second quarter… Just getting destroyed with no resistance… The Lakers trailed 74-43 at the half. Ouch. The TWolves shot 64%, the Lakers 32%... He started Kelly for Kaman and Nash for Marshall to get more life out there. The Walking Dead season finale was a week early apparently… The lead continued to balloon… He brought in Sacre for Hill with 5 minutes left, down 38… Johnson in for Kelly and Young in for Nash… Marshall in for Bazemore with 2 minutes left… The Lakers trailed 111-77 heading into the fourth. 111… No more notes necessary…

Defense was awful. The team gave up anything and everything the Wolves asked for. Can't believe I watched that game. At least it was quick and I could speed it up even more with the DVR.

Not defending MDA, but he was using TOs and making quick substitutions. No player got into everybody's face to Bring It

What We Learned
Marshall got exposed
Meeks showed that he is a sub
Hill is not consistent
Johnson has a good disappearing act
Kelly has a lot to learn
Sacre is a hard-working M.L. Carr
Young is passionate
Bozeman wants a job
Kaman has checked out
Brooks is still on the bench
Nash is alive
Rambis is not HC material
