|
|
I wanted to revisit the topic of Ryan Kelly.
I know I talked about him when he first started getting playing time and was so impressed I named him to the the heir apparent to Pau who at the time was playing so uninspired...and many here jumped all over me.
First off, I have to admit that Pau has been playing very well on the offensive side and has stepped it up on defense also...I guess we'll never know what his problem was back then.
But anyways, I have been happy to see continuous growth in Ryan Kelly. He is shooting the ball more aggressively and also driving to the hoop. He has been making good passes, played smart, some people say he has been playing decent defense..even blocking some shots.
While he may not be the successor to Pau, I see him as a combination of Pau and Lamar...actually taking the best attributes of each of them to form a nice hybrid forward.
Ryan Kelly has:
Some height like Gasol
Can pass like Gasol...(I'm not saying as good as Pau, but he does make some nice passes.
Can handle the ball some like Lamar
Can rebound like both but definitely has room to improve.
Kelly can shoot outside better than both Pau and Lamar
Doesn't have bonehead momets like LO
Is starting to show some inside moves....lots of room for improvement here.
Anyways, I'm optimistic about Ryan's future...he's very versatile.
Anyone feel the same? |

If I recall, a lot of the Draft impressions were that he's a solid player with potential but his foot injury made him a question mark. Hence why a lot of people passed up on him.
Keep in mind that he's also mainly getting playtime because of all the injuries, but if we keep him and develop him... We could turn him to a go to Kyle Korver-esque player. |

By the way, his doppelganger in this year's draft is Frank Kaminsky (if he enters). Same style. |

He is gonna be a semi-star in this league, he should get a decent contract from the Lakers... he has good potential. |

I think he can be a solid backup no matter what offense we run, and to get that in the second round is great. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

What's so funny about that? he has good offensive game, good handles and good movement.... at worse he is gonna be a really solid role-player.... |

I was actually not a big fan, initially, but once he started getting solid PT, he actually reminds me a lot of a Robert Horry type (early Robert Horry, as a rookie with the Rockets), except not quite as athletic. Overall, he has a solid all around game. Can shoot from the outside, play defense, and do the things on the court that don't show up in the stat sheet, but are integral for a team to win.
If he continues to work on his game, he'll be a solid role player for this franchise (and worth of wearing that #4). _________________ Just chill and watch the new Dynasty evolve...

i honestly doubt that F.Kam has close to the ability off the dribble. its a big (underrated) part of Kelly's effectiveness, and potential. |

Anything more than that is unrealistic. |

exactly - i think his limiting factor is his lack of quickness - it will limit his ability to create shots for himself. you cant even be a potential 3rd option like that, let alone semi stawww |

Sasha Vujacic was "nba superstar" so Kelly can certainly be a semi-star. _________________ Kobe |

Ryan Kelly will get stronger and faster with NBA level training.
Is Dirk considered fast? |

dirk is 7 feet tall with the highest shot release in the game so he doesnt have to create as much separation ; so he doesnt need the speed/quickness.
& you dont think that Kelly was doing as good of training as possible at freaking DUKE UNIVERSITY? + he's already improved in the athleticism category, how much more do you think is really attainable for Ryan Kelly?
just be happy that we drafted a solid bench piece or 5th man starter in the 2nd round, man. feel like you want him to be more than that? lol |

I would say a young Dirk was much more athletic then a young Ryan Kelly. |

its really besides the point. Dirk having the highest shot release/un-contestable shot makes for him not needing the space. Kelly needs that space and therefore needs the speed/quickness. dirk doesnt |

Kelly is younger, a big, and has a very rare skillset. So yeah, I think he has more upside.
So I guess you don't know? _________________ Kobe |

all that is cool.but i still dont see him, with a high ceiling - he'll always be limited by his lack of quickness.
Baze has absolutely no limits and all the skill you could ask for. just maybe a shorter prime after improvement due to age.
what i really dont know, is how people arent really high on Bazemore. |

At the end of the day a good bench player is what Kelly is. Which is something every team needs.
I would not confuse him with a starter though..
