Mike D'Antoni has one more guaranteed season on his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and the franchise is leaning toward retaining him.

There have been rumblings both privately and publicly that there have been some disgruntled players.

The Lakers hired D'Antoni to replace Mike Brown in November of 2012 despite being close to a deal with Phil Jackson.

Terrible hire.

But I understand why we're keeping him. Need to show the rest of the league that we don't give up on coaches too soon.. even if they are as bad as he is.

So when Gasol, Kaman and Jordan Hill all leave who will be their replacements?

No decent low post style big man will dare to sign here.

Kobe won't care because he'll just do his own thing...

MDA has to go.

It is a business and we dont want to buy out his contract. We are not going to win very many games next year anyways.

That's my line of thinking with keeping him as well. As much as I want Kevin Ollie, I'm not sure our franchise has the savvy to hire him.

Makes a lot of sense to be honest. Firing him would be an emotional decision not a logical one.

I would not understand it if the Lakers choose to retain D'Antoni for any reason other than he's got a guaranteed contract, espcially considering these facts:

1. Kobe has indicated he doesn't want him as the head coach.
2. Multiple Lakers have grumbled publicly about him, including Pau Gasol, who has been D'Antoni's constant whipping boy.
3. The Lakers are headed for their worst season(record-wise) under D'Antoni's regime.
4. Even though D'Antoni declared that defense would be something that he worked on with the team, the Lakers are currently ranked 29th in the league in points allowed, giving up a whopping 109 points a game.
5. Public outcry from fans has never been more vociferous, as chants of "We want Phil", have been heard at Staples Center for all to hear.

-If i'm missing any other points regarding D'Antoni's futility as Lakers coach, feel free to add.-

Just going to throw this out there....mike D is going to be able to hand pick most the players this summer to fit his system. Lets be honest when he got this team it wasn't built for his offense. He can possibly turn this around next season. I'm not a fan of his at all but they might as well roll with his next season there isn't really a coach out there that is great

Great sign. They might be speaking with an agent of another coach, and don't want to look desperate.

I would not understand it if the Lakers choose to retain D'Antoni for any reason other than he's got a guaranteed contract. These facts are certain:

1. Kobe has indicated he doesn't want him as the head coach.
2. Multiple Lakers have grumbled out him, including Pau Gasol, who has been D'Antoni's constant whipping boy.
3. The Lakers are headed for their worst season(record-wise) under D'Antoni's regime.

-If i'm missing any other points regarding D'Antoni's futility as Lakers coach, feel free to add.-

6. We have a lottery pick, we don't want him anywhere near it.

We'd need one of the two worst records in the league to get a guaranteed pick.

And we won't be THAT bad next year.

Part of me is thinking that the Blake trade saved us just about enough $ to pay off MDA...

I dont buy it.

Jeanie wouldnt do damage control on ESPN if the organization wasnt aware of the MDA backlash. Theyre fully aware that fans and players are not happy.

I mentioned this some time ago about MDA:

If he loses the Lakers job, I dont see him getting another NBA job offer anytime time soon.

Maybe as an assistant Offensive coach? but would he take that?..doubt it

He could have been an all time great college coach. I seriously believe he would be great at that with his offense.

Well, he is the perfect coach for that, considering how inept he is at coaching a team without a superstar PG who practically runs the whole team for him.
