Quote:
The back and forth of whether the Lakers will keep head coach Mike D’Antoni at season’s end swings from one extreme to the next on a seemingly daily basis. Today, the Lakers are leaning toward firing their head man at season’s end.

Do Fitbits have a "mood ring" mode? If they do maybe we can just get Mitch or Jimmy one, and have their feelings tweeted hourly.

Its based on what Steven A Smith said on First Take I believe. Ramona has also said on the radio she disagrees with reports of them leaning towards keeping him. I think thats about as credible as the sources are so far.

this organization is so terrible at handling coaches i do wonder if we're not heading towards another debacle like last season. once the rumor mill starts pumping they're almost forced into making a decision they don't want: fire him or extend him. they can't go into next season with him as a lame duck. the players will smell it like blood in the water.

Agreed. Lame duck coach next season = disaster. Hiring a bad coach on a 3-4 year deal = another disaster.

I think when you run the Lakers you should expect these kinds of rumors. I really don't think it's anything that's affecting their decision making process with coaches.

Fans wanted Phil and they picked Mike D. Fans wanted Shaw, they picked Mike Brown. I really don't think fan persistence is the deciding factor but it certainly is a factor.

If you mean this organization as Jim Buss, then yes. But Phil was a pretty good choice. Adelman was a stable choice - Jim went with his DVD guy. Phil's return woulda brought stability, instead Jim wanted the helter skelter style that's fun to watch.

Question is can this "organization" learn from its, i mean, his mistakes?

What about Adelman suggests he's a stable choice?

Phil wasn't picked by Jerry. Phil has said this. Jim has said this. Mitch has said this. Multiple reports have said this. However, continue on with this false dogma.

I hope they fire him immediately after the finale. That would please me.

Love it.

I look at Pringles' time here from a fair perspective. He has been unfortunate to have two teams which were decimated by injuries. It would have been interesting to see what he could have done with healthier squads.

With that said, he hasn't helped himself by sitting some of his best players. There's no excuse for a guy like Jordan Hill rotting away on the bench, when he's clearly one of our best rebounders and toughest players -- which we sorely need.

Or playing Sacre over Kaman. This one, I can understand a bit more. This team isn't going anywhere, anyway, so we might as well develop Sacre. But still, MDA had some weird grudge against Kaman.

All in all, I won't miss MDA if they fire him. He'll always be the ringleader of those Phoenix Suns teams which I hated about 7-8 years ago.

his father especially. the dude hired a coach on the spot during a press conference once. how the dell harris situation was allowed to fester as long as it did still amazes me. rambis to the rescue!

The problem with all of these conflicting rumors is like the problem with rumors about the Laker FO in general. It is a tight lipped group, so the rumors are almost always someone's speculation, based on virtually nothing actually from the organization.

The odds would heavily favor LA starting fresh next year.

Won't believe it until it happens. I'd bet D'Antoni returns next season.

If the guy actually acted and treated his players with some class and dignity, I'd be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for one more season, considering all the injuries. But the guy has just been abysmal when it comes to that.

The Lakers are just making up for what they should have realized, and probably realized that MDA was not the best fit.

Lakers might have to fire MDA immediately after the season to attract FA's.

Its pretty much a no brainier that we need a new coach. Would be shocked if he comes back.

Have no hate for him though. Nothing he could have done this season. The injuries are not his fault. Well outside of if you want to blame him for Kobe's last year.
