I cared about 2013 more than any other season I had watched before.
I was just so convinced that they were a team of destiny. After the all star break every game was so exciting i was addicted.
Kobe throwing out 10 Ast game like it was candy, hitting every clutch shot against the raptors.
That whole season was filled with highs and lows; one of the best nights of the year was when the lakers played the pistons.
My roommate (Huge Heat/James fan) watched as Lakers barely survived with a late bucket by Kobe and said to me "It's sad that the lakers playoff hopes almost died tonight." I told him "Well like it or not man, the lakers aren't dead yet." The ultimate low was when Kobe went down. I was just devastated and couldn't believe it was ending the way it did.
That team had a chance to win, there is still no doubt in my mind about that. This season is just kind of lame, so whatever. |

This season was far more painful, in numerous ways. It's the 4th season in a row without a deep playoff run. Hope is further dashed for rebuilding around a somewhat recovered or consistent Kobe, and now he clutters up more cap space. Lost near-term and mid-term hope is worse than the prospect of needing sustained patience. |

Last season was tougher because we started the season with geniuine hopes of a ring. Fired Mike Brown, looked like Phil was back. Then I'll be damned...
- hired D'antoni
- Nash falls apart
- D'antoni vs Gasol / Jamison
- Crybaby Howard vs Kobe drama
- more injuries
- realization that we could miss the playoffs
- realization it'd be worst cuz we had no picks
the only bright spots were Earl Clark looking like a legit future talent and Kobe somehow performing in prime condition.
After the Kobe injury it was a dark scary time for Lakers fans worldwide.
Then the offseason, Howard leaves. Then that last second report that he changed his mind...which was false. Earl Clark leaves. No Gasol trade.
Ugh
This season I had low expectations, it was just fun watching our young guys develop and compete. |

Last year was worse. They had a chance to go deep in the play offs then kobe goes down. Not to mention the (bleep) going through the season.
This year, i expected them to be really really bad. I didnt get mad becuase they lose. WHen you have a coach who lost the team in the middle of last year and a team that going into the season had like 1-2 guys with more then one year contracts, how can it now be bad? really bad?
This season, i dont even count it. Yes, its the lakers, yes blah blah blah, but we know it wont last, it will get fixed. |

This season for me was just an extension of last season. But I was more prepared for it than last season. I was genuinely hoping that we hit good with Dwight Nash and Jamison with a still top 7 Kobe. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I would say this season has been a BLESSING compared to last season (if we get a top 3 pick). We were not expected to be a championship contender, so the losses don't hurt me much at all. Last year was much more painful because I actually believed we would be playing in the finals. This year I knew was a stop-gap season till this summer when we would have cap space. If anything the fact this year has been so bad is actually GOOD because it gave us one more asset (a high 1st round pick). If this pick turns out to be top 3, then this season will be more than worth it and easily better than last.
The worst thing we could've done is have this year been just like last year. Be a middling team that limps into the 8th seed just to get swept by the Spurs. At least now we have some hope that the ping pong balls can land us a franchise changing player going foward. |

Last season was a nightmare. We woke from the nightmare and realized that reality (this season) is even worse. |

Easily last season. Who expected Howard to not wanna play pick & roll with arguably the 2nd best pick & roll PG in NBA history? Who expected Nash to break his leg and miss a ton of games? Who expected Kobe to blow his Achilles on a move we've seen him do hundreds if times? Who expected Howard to not mesh with Nash and Kobe - then walk - leaving $30M on the table?
I had high expectations last year. This year? Not so much. When it was known that Kobe wasn't coming back 100% - then he got hurt again - and played only 6 games, my expectations for this year went out the window.
I'm content with this year. We had a team this year that was mostly fun to watch (offensively) and we got a chance to evaluate players worth keeping next year and beyond. On top of that, for the first time since we drafted Bynum, we have the opportunity to draft a really good player. This bodes well for our future. |

Last season was an extreme disappointment, but this season with Kobe going down but while signing the biggest contract in the NBA, you can kiss the Laker's championship hopes goodbye WITH Kobe as it's marquee player. Let's face it - he's too old and potentially damaged/broken. He'll still be a decent player, but it won't be enough with the LeBrons and Durants of the world. Absolutely any hope has been wiped clean when Kobe signed the dotted line.
Rebuilding is not going to take a single year. Especially with Nash laughing (& limping) all the way to the bank.
I would do everything I can to keep the lottery pick, NOT trade for Kevin Love (as much as I like him), and rebuild the standard NBA way i.e. through the draft, & developing young talent.
Lakers fans aren't used to this. However, it's the new era. The Jimmy Buss era. We can expect more of the same next year. The only difference is that we'll have a high lottery pick providing the hope for the future that this season was sorely missing. |

Last year was when the wheels came off the bus. This year the Lakers bus is on 4 cinder blocks... |

Wasted potential sucks, but at least the team was relevant last season. This season was over in December and we've been twiddling our thumbs waiting for the lottery ever since. I'd rather lose and go out with a whimper than be irrelevant.
Also, rooting for a higher pick is just wack and is a situation I hope doesn't happen again soon. (bleep) this piece of (bleep) season. |
Yup, this season. I dont remember having fun watching the Lakers outside of the first month and a half of the season. Worst season ever? Yes, it was. Cant wait for it to finish |

WORST season in Laker history.
Only consolation is that Gang-Green & Knicks missed the playoffs too.
1st time in history all 3 have missed the playoffs in the same season. |

Easily last season, the Kobe injury late especially.
I knew we were going to be bad this season, it was only question of 8th season bad or lottery bad. |

Last year easily because we had high expectations last year that went no where fast. This year we had low to no expectations. PLus last year's Kobe injury was much heartfelt then the one he sustained this year. |

Last season...too much drama about whose team it is. This season it is expected because of the cap killing contracts of Kobe n Gasol and too little talent. |

Spot on word for word exactly how I feel.
This season was so painful you became numb after a while.
Last season was never numbingly painful, there was hope, lots of hope!
I actually thought we had a shot at beating SA in the playoffs until Kobe went down against GS with 2 games to go in the season.
Heck I thought we actually had a shot without Kobe after watching us beat SA the next game at Staples! (Myopic obviously looking back with 20/20)
Sure the pain of watching an entire season come crumbling down hurts quite a bit, but at least we had legit hope and incentive to anticipate a competitive game other than how many ping pong balls we can get if we tank!
The season mattered for all intents and purposes until the 3rd to last game of the season.
Unprecedented this season was as a Life long Lakers fan of 30+ years, and yes, "(bleep) this piece of (bleep) season" sums it up perfectly for me! _________________ 16 and counting....

Last season I remember going to bed one night certain we were going to replace Mike Brown with Phil Jackson, only to wake up the next morning and read that the Lakers had hired Mike D'Antoni, because they believed he would be a better fit for our roster of players than Jackson.
Like everyone not named Mitch or Jim, I knew there was no longer a chance of winning a championship that season. That was definitely the most disappointing moment in all my years as a Lakers fan.
And I blame everything that went wrong both that season and this one on that one night. _________________ I would rather have questions I cannot answer than answers I cannot question - Richard Feynman |

I didn't fall asleep during last year's games. Right up until the point that Kobe got hurt...I thought we had a chance. When Kobe went down...we all knew it was over. |

Losing Dr. Buss. Losing Kobe to injury after he was played into the ground. Watching the uncomfortable machinations of DH12 and Pau try to play basketball together at the same time, on the same team was distressing to say the least. Last year by a long shot. I thought we would be competing for the best record and a ring, only to realize that the sum of the parts were far less than what I expected.
Plus this year we had Swaggy P to keep me watching. Love that kid. _________________ Magic*Kobe*LBJ*AD*Cap |
