Quote: | Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks are progressing toward a deal to sign veteran free agent Lamar Odom before the NBA regular season ends Wednesday, according to sources briefed on the situation.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Knicks are on course, barring an unforeseen snag, to formally sign Odom this week in a move that would put him on their roster immediately and, more importantly, include a team option for next season. |

So the Knicks basically scoop up all our ex players? Earl Clark, Shannon Brown, MWP, Odom? _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Very nice of Phil.
I think Lamar was one of the players Phil truly cared for.
Remember a radio interview and he said he was so concerned for Lamar and wanted Lamar to get back on track.
Phil now presents an opportunity for Lamar that no one in the nba would. The whole point of signing him now is that Phil wants to Lamar to practice and train over the summer and will monitor it.
When you think about it, I'm sure Phil knows odds are high Lamar will not succeed but really kind of him to do this anyway. For all the talk Jackson had no heart and is out for blood, this is one of the times Phil has thought with his heart clearly.
I doubt whether will this pan out, but Lamar should appreciate what kind of gesture this is from Phil. No one else in the league would do this for him right now. |

While Phil has historically preferred to bring back his older/declining players ... this is still very nice to hear. Wish nothing but good things for LO in his life recovery (of which, I'm sure, his basketball career recovery might aid). |

agreed with the sentiment that Phil is helping out Odom
Hope it allows Odom to regain some sense of purpose and direction.
Maybe Gasol and Odom reunite now. |

Predictable. Luke Walton and Bill Wennington next.
And some of you wanted to keep this man no matter how much power he wanted. |

We shouldn't have signed Phil because he brought back LO!

I know Phil was looking to find players who know the triangle. Who does he plan on coaching it? One of his former assistants? I doubt Woodson is brought back. |

Kind of wierd to sign a player a day before the last game of the season, and a team that is going to miss the playoffs at that. |

I like both guys, but it's a bad move, IMO. Odom has been done for a while. |

Knicks are a bigger mess than just signing LO. Signing LO just gets them a guy who is familiar with the triangle. I assume what Phil wants is some players on the team that is familiar with the system he wants to implement so the learning curve isn't as big as if he doesn't get players on the team who don't know the system. |

Lamar might not play, but he could be useful when it comes to basketball practice and helping the younger guys develop their game. highly risky, but Phil and Lamar must have some kind of understanding. I mean, Lamar was great guy when Phil was leading the Lakers, one could assume Phil has an influence on Lamar and may keep him check?
hope lamar recovers! |

I'm hoping Lamar has one last quality season. If he gets his head on straight, I could see him averaging about 7-8 ppg and 4-5 rpg. That would be a solid year for Lamar, in my opinion. _________________ Good Laker book I recommend, "The Biggest What-If's in Lakers History" http://www.amazon.com/Biggest-What-Ifs-Angeles-History-ebook/dp/B00BB3OEC0 |

I don't think anyone accused Phil of being heartless, just Machiavallian. I like what he's doing for LO, but there's really no downside for Phil in this. _________________ “We must always take sides. Maybe with some kind of contract, he'll go ahead and get in a month or so at a rehab. Dry himself out. That short stint in Europe was heartbreaking. He had the coke sweats and everything. _________________ So glad we gave you your flowers while you were here, Kobe. |
