102 years ago and the Royal Mail Ship Titanic is still making news. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

As a Titanic history nut I was aware of this. Many people have a warped sense of her size because James Cameron's film made her look way larger than she was.
882 1/2 feet is nothing to scoff at but modern cruise ships are literal cities on the sea. Still, it was impressive. I've been to the Titanic museum where they reconstructed the Grand Staircase, and it's still pretty grand to this day.
Ocean Liners like the Titanic were far better built than cruise ships, however (queue jokes about icebergs here). Titanic could probably cut that cruise ship in two if she hit it head on.
It's too bad they scrapped her sister ship, Olympic. They could have made her a floating hotel like the Queen Mary but oh well. That way at least people would still have some sense of what the Titanic was really like... |

Cruise ships don't travel far from shore...they would probably sink if they faced rough water in the open seas. With airline travel as it is today, there is only one ocean liner serving the UK to New York, and the Queen Mary 2 is more of a cruise ship rather than a passenger carrier like the old days. |

Ya that was what I was getting at. QM2 is a fatass (sorry girl) but she's definitely still a "liner" per se. |

How eerie that South Korean ferry disaster fell on the same day. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

Its been a bad 12 months for South Korean sailors and pilots...First they couldn't manually land an airliner and now the captain is one of the first guys to jump into a lifeboat without warning the passengers to abandon ship... |
