When main players don't get a long with a coach or a coach's system, don't expect those players to be at their best.

I believe Gasol can still be of importance to Lakers offense and defense when he is utilized appropriately to his strengths.

We need a coach who can cater our strengths.

How many players have to come out and point the finger at MDA before the FO admits their mistake and makes a move toward a coach that will utilize our player's strengths?

He might be doing us a favour. If he can convince the FO to dump MDA then hell, I'll pay for his salary. Just kidding....only if I had the money.

If Dwight couldn't convince them to dump Pringles, will Pau?

I think it's 80-20 that Pau is gone.

Same.

And yeah a champion vet gets to dictate terms of what he would want in order to re-sign. I don't think he's telling the Lakers what to do but he damn sure can define what HE wants to do. This isn't some no name rook.

nobody cares what a "champion vet" thinks if he's over the hill. to some extent that applies to kobe's anger as well.

It's strategy. His preferred ideal scenario is to stay, be more involved in the offense, have a different offense, have a different coach, to be on a contending team and to get paid. Whatever the probability of some or all of those happening, this is exactly the time to do it since he's a free agent now, and doing it in private has probably been already done, and puts no additional pressure on the organization to try to guide it to his preferences one last time before he gives up on getting it, and heads to another team.
It's business.

Since Pau's been with the team 7 years now, I believe he's eligible for a no-trade clause. Offer him 2 yrs/ 14-20 million and a no-trade clause so that he's not worried about his future here or the annual "might trade Pau rumors", and I think he'll stay no matter who's the coach.

Only to have MDA whine about the meeting to the public?

I think we can sign him to a reasonable contract for 2 years. He has been a loyal guy who seemed to always be the scapegoat (right or wrong) when things were not going our way. Because he is a quiet guy, he was an easy target. He is still one of the most skilled bigs in the league. After the two years are up, he and KB come off the books and both will have a chance to resign for the cheap. If we resign them for cheap money and get a couple of big time free agents, 2016 may be the next year we realistically play to win a championship.

actually gasol has played pretty good under mda. he played questionable under phil during that sweep run. and he got along fine with phil.

when mda benched gasol. gasol came out guns blazing on the court. havent seen him play that hard in years. so this idea that mda is killing gasol is a lie. he's not. gasol is older, slower, and more often hurt/sick. it is what it is.

Strikes me that Pau and Kobe are opposite ends of the spectrum.

Pau wants an offensive game centered around him where he can be the motor of a team offense with his passing and shooting.

Kobe's inclination is to display his personal dominance as the lone gunman on the floor.

Unfortunately, Mike's system is more of a numbers game so it doesn't account for outliers such as Kobe or Pau, but it does work with the average guys.

It is kinda sad because for Pau it must feel like he isn't playing team basketball, and Kobe, when healthy, must have felt under utilized.

But on the other hand if they could both compromise their games just a little for the good of the coach's strategy they could be competitive again.

How many Championships did pringles win with the perfect roster for his system in Phoenix? Exactly... ZERO.

MDA is a fraud...shouldn't be anywhere near a head coaching position in the NBA.

1) The Laker management doesn't need players complaining in order to figure whether the Lakers are winning or losing with MDA. They'll bring in a new coach when they're ready to do so. They're not going to sit and blabber in front of a microphone while they're deciding though.

2) Neither Kobe nor Pau are part of any rebuilding strategy. They're just here to fill seats while the Lakers start the rebuild process. No player on our current roster is in position to expect any say in the Lakers strategy. If they think they are they're living in the past.

If the keep DAntoni, they are a run and guy team with old players.
They do not have the personnel to fit a run and gun system.

The Lakers need to keep Pau at a decent salary. 7k year?

Fire DAntoni and hire a defensive oriented coach.

Draft wisely. Need a defensive big guy inside.

But to have a coach that requires certain kind of personnel doesn't make sense. Especially a coach that does not fit Kobe or Pau.
