Yeah but...but...but.... here come those that deny the reality that Byron Scott has, thus far, proven to be a below average coach.
Another "great selection" by Jim Buss.
Maybe we can start a row of new banners at Staples Center... the streak of terrible coaching hires by Jim Buss!!! _________________ A three headed monster... Jeannie, Pelinka, and Ham... another terrible season. |

Can we just give him a shot before we talk. I know he doesn't have the greatest record and resume but just let the season play out before we say anything. |

Also, forgot to add these:
- in 2000, took over a struggling New Jersey Nets team and in 2001-2, won 52 games and went to the NBA finals! (lost to the Lakers)
- Then the following year, took team again all the way to NBA finals! (Lost to the Spurs)
- 2007-8, took Hornets to a 56-26 record, 2nd overall in Western Conference
- 2008 Named head coach for Western Conference All Star team |
Getting Jason Kidd MAAAAAY have had a little something to do with that Nets turnaround. Don't forget the nets were 26-56 under Byron the year before Jason arrived. |
Seriously....???? Why do you have to put everything in perspective and hose down those who are homers for the Lakers and believe that every move is a great move by the FO (whether it is or not)?
Jason never got along with Scott and even ran the team counter to what Byron Scott wanted... thus the solid overall record.
Had Jason Kidd did what Byron Scott wanted... you would find one winning season in Byron's coaching resume. _________________ A three headed monster... Jeannie, Pelinka, and Ham... another terrible season. |

its not in our hand. you accept it and deal with it |
Don't see what that has to do with anything. I'm talking about Scott, not Ollie. If Ollie were the coach and had this team, same problem. My overall point is that like most average coaches, Scott can only do so much with a poor overall roster. Some here believe he will magically uplift this team to a high level defensive team. With a possible starting backcourt of Kobe/Nash, and with Boozer/undersized center, I don't see how that's possible. |
At this point, all I want from Scott is to properly develop Randle and to play through the post for Kobe. That's all we can hope for at this point. The FO made sure that all hope and aspirations were lost with the moves they made. I just hope this coaching decision doesn't come back to bite them like the last two. |
They celebrated when drafting Randle but then go ahead and disregard his development when hiring a coach. Strange things happening in Laker land these days. |
David West might not have like Scott, but he developed great under Scott. Same with Kenyon Martin. |

Would you judge Phil Jackson as a coach solely on the outcome of Game Six of the Finals in Boston in 2008? |

Kind of like Doc getting KG and Allen
Phil getting Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Shaq, Kobe, Gasol
Spo getting Lebron and Bosh
Coaches need good players to win. |

Can't compare what happens when a coach has support of the star player and of all the laker greats in LA. Totally different than all of the ridiculous comparisons made with his with his team in Cleveland. Byron will do his best because he's a proud Laker. |

We should have hired Karl, he's a better coach and took a Nuggets team that's similar to this Lakers team talent wise to the playoffs in a tougher western conference. The only reason their hiring Scott because he was a Laker, from a basketball standpoint it's not a good fit. |

if he had a more modern coaching approach, i wouldnt care so much about the losing in his recent, modern-NBA stint.
..i just think he's a dated coach.
"i dont watch more than 20 minutes of tape.. because i know basketball" ,really Byron..
Fans will harp on Dantoni being a one trick/system pony ; but if youre only watching 20mins of tape , are you really changing your schemes adequately???? |

How about 3 years $12M with 3rd year a team option. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold. |

Since people LOVE George Karl and people LOVE stats and people LOVE "Did you knows."
Did you know that while George Karl coached the Denver Nuggets from the middle of the 04-05 season till the 12-13 season, that the Nuggets made it out of the 1st round only once (08-09)? |

I wonder if Scott becoming coach will make Cp3 think about demanding a trade to the Lakers... very unlikely... but anything is possible. |

Lots of hate towards Scott. If he is in fact hired to be the coach I can support that, if it backfires so be it. it's not like Pop or Phil are available to coach this team and we are hiring Scott instead. He deserves a shot just for helping this team win rings in the 80's. If he is able to right the ship and take the team to the playoffs lots of posters around here will look foolish. This is a perfect time for fair weather fans and bandwagon fans to get off the ship for a change. I heard the Clippers are looking for people to join their fan base. |

You've got your different types of online fans:
1. They hate Jim and Mitch and will hate any move
2. Fans that legitimately believe that Byron is not a good coach
3. Fans who believe Phil and Pop are available
You can have a decent discussion with #2s. |
