I also dont live in LA and I am curious what his role is on local TV that has made him so beloved. is he a politician? Because only a politician can get so many people behind him despite a resume of failure as head coach.
If hiring former Lakers is a prerequisite, why not give Norm Nixon a chance too?
And the only name on this list that I would actually take Byron over is Dunleavy. |
2 FINALS APPEARANCES AND A RESUME WHICH INCLUDES DEVELOPING THE LIKES OF JASON KIDD, CP3, AND KYRIE IRVING (PLAYED MUCH BETTER UNDER B-SCOTT) IS FAR FROM A FAILURE AS A HEAD COACH. |
Sub 500 record oveall. Coached team that set longest losing streak in NBA history. Coached a team that tied the record for the biggest loss in playoff history. Coached a team that was in the bottom 26 defensively for three years.
He may not be a failure, but he sure isn't a success. Lakers need a lot better than "Um.... I guess he'll do" for their next coaching hire. |
he was banking on LeBron returning to Cleveland...once that fell through, it was over for him |

Irving is a poor example, he hasn't developed much. And I would argue that Kidd developed Scott, not the other way around. |
irving was developing nice under byron scott, it was only when mike brown took over that irving's growth was stunted...which proves my point. plus, coaching 2 top 10 pg's of all-time in their prime + making the finals twice is nice on any resume, no matter how u chop it up. |

I like Thibs more for the Lakers. His defensive philosophy and his ability to make young players produce is what I like about him. Adding to that is Kobe's respect for him. Wouldn't it be ironic to see the guy that destroyed us in 2008 to finally grace our sidelines. _________________ Check out my stuff:

Problem with Mike Brown is his inability to work with a star PG that facilitates the offense. LeBron's Cleveland teams have always been successful because of him basically carrying the scoring load while not necessarily being the one that runs the plays for the the team. _________________ Check out my stuff:

oh i don't. the fact that he'll work for peanuts will probably be used as a negotiating tool to get scott or hollins' price down even further. MDA, in terms of years, took a lowball deal as well. |

We'll get to get a left over coach... The rest of the league will pick and Lakers will have the honor or cleaning afterwards.....

I think we need to stop getting in the business of trading away draft picks. We aren't championship contenders that have less use for a late 1st rounders. We need every one of these cap-friendly pieces. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I'm starting to think he is the default coach. Sentimental ties, reputed ability to connect with Kobe (who knows), and sadly, can be easily dispensed with if things go south. I don't think he asks for an exorbitant amount of $ either. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Too bad you can't vote more than once. Since my first choice seems to be off the table, I'm going to throw my hat into the George Karl ring and quantify that by saying we should do whatever it takes to bring Melo in. Throw Randle in as the draft pick and I think we've got a team that can compete at least until Kobe rides off into the sunset. _________________ Not a legend |
