I couldn't find a thread on this. If there is one, mods feel free to merge.
Who's going? Who's seen it? What do you think? I'm planning on seeing it at the IMAX on Sunday. I'll report back on Monday. I have pretty high hopes because...well...monsters. _________________ Not a legend |

It was too long in my opinion.
::Possible Spoilers:: Way too much build up and when you think they're finally gonna have the big battle, it cuts away. The final battle is worth it though...pretty badass. |

I wasn't planning to, but it's getting such good reviews I've changed my mind. Maybe this weekend if I can find tickets. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

As a kid, I watched wide-eyed those rubber suit monsters do battle on miniature toy sets.
Of course I'm going now that CGI is at its current level. _________________ We back. |

You make it sound average. Wonder if I should go see Neighbors instead. |

I saw it and loved it.
I don't know much about Godzilla and his old films, I just know that as a kid I used to watch the Matthew Broderick version all the time.
Loved this film as well. |

Overall, it was pretty underwhelming. They focused on the cliche human storylines way too much.
Sidenote, what kind of parent brings toddlers to this movie? And are there any people worse than the ones who bring their kids to a movie and don't have the decency to leave the theater if their children cant shut up for more than 2 minutes at a time? I just don't get how people can be that ignorant. SMH |

I'm a Godzilla geek so it was 10/10 for me.
As just another summer movie it was 8/10. Ken Watanabe and Cranston put in what were probably the worst performances of their career but the movie still worked somehow. Funny that they didn't put Watanabe in any of the marketing...that would've just strengthened the appeal for me, as I didn't even know he was going to be in it.
The buildup was good, despite the narrative syle taking a lot from both Cloverfield and Independence day: scientists slowly figuring out sensor data, dark, unrevealing macro shots, military gearing up, jets and helicopters being rendered useless, countdown to zero hour. Seen it all before.
They NAILED the Godzilla fan service. They got his roar, got his finishing move down and hit it at just the right time. Some of the shots of Godzilla & the other Kaijus gave me the (bleep) chills...they were terrifying and awe-inspring. The score was average but it helped. Sound was (bleep) tremendous, my goodness. Don't waste it by seeing it at some chumpass Magic Johnson theater. See it at one of the newer $15+ theaters if you can't make it to the Arclight.
It was more well-made than any Marvel movie since the Avengers. _________________ http://chickhearn.ytmnd.com/

A lizard monster coming out of the sea? No thanks, a little too fake for me. |

Just saw it with my wife tonight, we were disappointed. This movie could have been so much better with its potential, even Transformer level would have been nice. Hardly enough Godzilla footage and more love story than anything...I give it 6.5/10. _________________ Back to Back Yeah, Yeah...and you know that!

After years of rewatching the Toho classics to purge the last remnants of Emmerich's Godzilla 98, thought this movie turned out better than expected.
Quote: | Hope Gareth Edwards will consider extended battle scenes if there's a sequel. That airport battle would've been great. Not many nitpicks, except that same shot of either motu's upside-down cane-like leg slowly enter the picture whenever they took a step was getting a bit too repetitive. |

It was a solid action flick. A little too much focus on kind of a trite "man tries to get back to his concerned wife and family" story, but that's just typical action plot. Balanced realism and honoring the originals pretty well. |

Couldn't hear half of Amazing Spider-Man 2 because of this, two parents and two kids, right behind me. Not screaming, but just constant full voice talking, alternated with a gentle, but audible, and totally ineffectual "we need to be quiet now" or "lower your voice" from a parent. Equally annoying.
I actually started HOPING for a full-on screeching tantrum that would force the parents' hand and get them to finally take the child outside. That would be better than this constant conversation that wasn't letting me hear much of the movie.
When it finally happened, ONE of the parents took ONE of the children out, while the other parent and child stayed behind and continued the Chinese water torture behind me.... until the other two returned and got the team back together again for a finale. |

Love story was dragging the movie , Action scenes took so long to get to, some, like the airport scene, were way too short. Supersized Godzilla too. Overall, I'd give it a 6.5/10. Was entertaining, i guess, just not as epic as it could have been. |

It's a fresh start for a really campy, shallow franchise that for 30+ years was a bunch of Japanese guys in hokey foam costumes swinging each other around a soundstage using crude ropes and pulleys. _________________ http://chickhearn.ytmnd.com/

Those Komodos can swim from island to island and they're monstrous lizards. Let's say a Komodo or one of their lesser cousins was somehow radiated during a Cold War era nuclear test and it mutated into a giant lizard monster that came out of the sea. The first people who encountered the beast were the Japanese and they called it Godzirra. It could happen... _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

Disappointed to see the bad reviews from so many people (here and other places). I'll check it out when I have time...Then again, I literally have so many movies on my computer that I need to see that are legit great movies, that maybe I can take my time on this. |

It was ok, nothing special. Too much talking, not enough Godzirra. I was kind of bored a few times. Decent summer movie, was worth watching in IMAX just for the special effects. Not a great movie however. |

I saw it in 3d Imax and was underwhelmed. It was just too long and a bit of a tease. When you think they're about to show godzilla fight, it cuts away. _________________ "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."
