Better movie but aside from Idris Elba, Godzilla had the superior cast.

I found the Japanese chick with her younger counterpart and those two scientists annoying. Going to go use my AMC gift cert later to watch Godzilla next week and I hope it's better than Pacific Rim.

If X-men wasn't coming out this soon then I'd go hit up Godzilla in a week or two. Guess I will wait until Blu-ray

Ron Perlman deserves some love.

Ouch. I cringed throughout 50% of Pacific Rim. That's doesn't bode well for Godzilla. PR was just over-hyped (bleep) and this is coming from a bonafide Godzilla, comic book nerd. Agree with the other poster. The Japanese chick and the two scientists were all sorts of lame. I'll still give Godzilla a go though.

How was Bryan Cranston?

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was just like the older films in you have to wait a bit before you get to see the monster fully. Yes the fight scenes could have been a bit longer but I get what they were going for.

Way better than Pacific Rim because PR didn't know how to deliver on the hype.

The Japanese scientist had the same look of "awe" in every scene.

More screen time.... the little Asian boy or Godzilla?

I watched pacific rim at home, I wished I would have done the same for godzilla.
Personally they're both movies you watch on a boring Sunday only because there's nothing else to do

The only positive of the night was that my wife paid this time. Lol

Just saw it today. THIS MOVIE WAS BEYOND BORING. You don't get to see godzilla until about 1 hour and 10 minutes into the movie. Bryan Cranston is only on the first half of the movie then your left with a bunch of extras. Terrible editing, everytime the monsters was about to fight they would cut the scene back to the extras - it was painful to watch. I felt like they robbed me of $30. Don't believe the hype, SAVE YOUR MONEY.

Just watched it.

Enjoyed it.

Good summer film.

You guys must not have watched Godzilla films when you were young. There was always some slow "human" story to sift through before you got a Godzilla sighting and ensuing battle scenes.

Godzilla looked AMAZING. What wonderful work they did.

And as far as the storyline went, what might they have done differently? Gone into the loves and losses of Godzilla?

I mean, there absolutely HAS to be a human story and while Cranston was a bit whiney and the Kick Ass kid was a little stoic, it was good buildup and a I thought a pretty awesome payoff.

Blue Oyster Cult said it best: "Go, Go Godzilla!"

My problem wasn't that they followed the monster movie formula like they wanted to, meaning they waited until after an hour to show any part of the monster. It was that once they showed him and they were gonna fight, they cut away. Then the next time they're gonna fight, they cut away.

I wasn't expecting a Man of Steel-esque 1 hour plus of non stop action but after waiting 75 minutes to see Godzilla, I want to see him in action. I couldn't care less about the little kid's reaction watching it on tv.

Aside from the last 2 minutes of the battle when he does the tail whip and the "fire" breathing, it was pretty lame action. And why was he all of the sudden able to destroy them so easily? Did he eat some spinach?

King Kong was maybe an hour too long but at least the action was great. The T-Rex fight and the final battle made the rest of the movie worth it. The action in Godzilla wasn't good enough to make up for the rest of the movie.

First: Go see it in a good theater, preferably the IMAX in 3D. Spectacular effects and sound.

Second: It was just what a Godzilla movie should be. Sure you need patience to get to the payoff, but once it comes, it's so worth it. The people in the theater actually applauded at the end of the big battle.

Third: I thought the MOTU's were pretty cool. I'm a big monster fan and those were some of the best. Reminiscent of Cloverfield.

Overall rating (and I'm more of a music critic than film critic): B+

I understand the frustration that might build with watching so many battle teases and you do make a GREAT point about Kong fighting that T-Rex ... that was freaking unbelievable.

They could have had, for instance, one other preliminary bout in the desert.

So, I hear your complaint.

But, to me, so much of Godzilla is based on the anticipation and the reveal. The filmmakers chose to go for the less-is-more approach and I am inclined to agree with them. If they go forward with a sequel, your wish will most certainly be granted but, you only one chance to make a first impression and, as I mentioned, Godzilla film lines always have a human story interwoven before the monsters get down. Trust me, this story was a million times better than those ... as was costuming ... ha.

I completely disagree with you regarding G's finishing move. I thought it happened at the perfect time. And it was a fantastic reveal too. Godzilla fans were waiting for that moment from the jump, trust me ... and it was framed in an almost iconic fashion. And when it came, it looked unbelievable and (the scary part for me) realistic.

I completely loved the tail fly swat move too.

He suffered and struggled ... he wasn't some invincible, unstoppable force ... I liked that too.

But I can see your angle and disappointments.

I just don't agree.

Great breakdown...and us hardcore 'Zilla fans were indeed waiting for the finishing move. Once I saw the tail start to glow I lout out a "FINALLY" in a good way. Also liked how they did the effects. I had nostalgia coming out my eyeballs.

I was really like a kid when that tail started lighting up from the bottom up.

Speechless, naturally ... but mouth opening awed.

When that destructive stream jetted out, I was in 'zilla heaven. I can only imagine watching this as a kid ... and I think that's what most folks are not finding in their experience. Thankfully, I did.

I give it a 7/10. Good looking effects but not loving the human stories nor Elizabeth Olson role. I just hope her Avengers appearance is better. Felt the trailers had more oomph and suspense than the actual movie at times. Really could've been retitled MUTO: With guest star appearances by Godzilla. The comments about Cranston were spot on yet, he was still easily the best human actor in the entire movie. Not a good sign.

Good movie. But if you want big monsters action, Pacific Rim is better. That said Gojira = king of kaiju.

I thought it was ok, certainly worth it if you like that genre. I'm a big fan of Godzilla. The fights were not long enough, and was not 'epic' enough. I thought the enemies weren't that good, Cloverfield rip off. His atomic breath was disappointingly weak.

Since it made alot of money, there will be a sequel. But they need to make it more 'epic'. Godzilla needs to get on a diet and get in shape. He looked pretty sluggish.

Great news Godzilla haters: It's being reports that he just hired Tim Grover and will begin an intense off-season regimen.

It's not fat. It's bloating from gas. That's why he belches flame.

Just be thankful it's coming out of his mouth.

This was my problem with it as well. Took a long time to build up, and then when the fights actually start they keep cutting away.

I still have problems understanding Ken Watanabe's lines, and I swear all he did was stare in this movie.
