He's probably the cheapest center in the league right now, is still young and improving, plays hard, loves being a Laker, and you insult him?

I see his ceiling as Splitter, which is to say that he can be a solid 4th-5th option, and a serviceable defender and rebounder. If he can add Splitters (newfound) passing skills...he can have a decent career. |

Blocked shots and rebounds require positioning and footwork. Frankly speaking, he's slow and can't jump. He's got decent length, but NBA players are athletic monsters. |

I think he could be decent at power forward. He seems to be playing out position, IMO. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

With a shooting range of about 10 feet, that's doubtful. He's got a limited shot arsenal at center, and the problem is exacerbated if you stick him at PF. Can't shoot a jump shot, no ability to iso. Whoever's guarding Sacre the wing would play 5 feet off him or would leave him to double on someone else.
The only thing Rob learned how to work off screen roll which is where the majority of his makes came from. If the Lakers stop running pick and roll, then he's going to be useless.
On the defensive side, he would be obliterated by anyone quicker than him. I can't see him faring very well against the likes of Griffin, Davis, Aldridge, Favors, Ibaka, etc. Even old man Garnett would chew him up and spit him out.
At best, Sacre is a low end journeyman, another Rony Turriaf, but with even lesser skills, and we know Turriaf is the epitome of serviceable scrubs. Sacre is an effort guy, but does little to impact the game. With his height and strength, he needs to be pushing people off the block and beasting on the boards, but I have never seen that from Robert Sacre.
Hell of a cheerleader though, so he does do one thing as well as Rony. |

His defensive rebounding is a major issue. He could play next to a Julius Randle though. |

Yup, I remember the days when our third string, second year, vet minimum center was a perennial all star... _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel |

Same here. Agreed with everything you said. The BB IQ favors Splitter because he had years with Pop to learn everything. With Sacre, all he's had are dysfunctional defense to go from. It's about team defense, too. |

some truly sickening and disrespectful comments about a positive, hard working role player. It's like Derek Fisher is back in a Lakers' uni all over again! |

Totally. However, I think you're failing to comprehend that at the moment, he IS OUR STARTING CENTER. |

A career change.
To what, I don't know. But he'll never be more than serviceable (is he even serviceable?) at basketball. Maybe he could become a "more than serviceable" UPS guy. |

He needs to work on getting a new offensive brain that turns him into Olojuwan, that's what he needs. He should pay Hakeem to train him this summer if he's serious about becoming a starter in this league. If I were him I would ask Kareem to teach him as well. _________________ Game 3 Victory in Denver . Hi, I just wanted to revive this thread for a moment...
Sometimes I think you guys are too harsh on Sacre. He looked pretty good last night, especially against Kaman.
He hit a couple of nice jumpers and got some rebounds and looked like he played decent defense.
I know his hands are suspect and he is not super fleet of foot but he's got size and strength.
I think he could be helpful against guys like Kanter, Mozkov, Bogut, Plumlee, maybe Lopez, etc....the big 7 footers...guys who aren't super fast but whose size may be too much for Jordan Hill to handle.
Just my 2 cents.... |
