From a purely basketball perspective, I wouldn't mind. It could help the Lakers rebuilding process. But on principle, I want Kobe to remain a Laker throughout his career. It's the way he wants it and it's the way Dr. Buss wanted it. |

Theoretically yes; practically no. If they renounced Melo, they no longer have his Bird rights, so to resign him they would need to get $23 million (or whatever his salary was) under cap, just as they would to sign any other free agent. |

New York isn't giving us Melo in a sign and trade for Gasol.
I think that Gasol for Chandler and Shupmert or Hardaway Jr. makes sense for both teams.
If they want to run the triangle Gasol is a much better fit than Chandler.
Chandler would give us a defensive anchor and his expiring contract plus Nash's would give us a lot of cap space for 2015.
Shumpert or Hardaway JR. would give us another young piece to help rebuild with. |
What about a S+T for Kobe...we get Melo and other pieces. What trade for Melo plus others and Kobe would work? |

People please. Get real. Kobe is never leaving the Lakers. He doesn't wanna be that great NBA player who leaves and bolts to another team. He...like Duncan...wants to be with ONE team his entire career. He wants two more years of getting paid..and then, if his body allows it, he might sign a minimum deal with L.A., along with hopefully elite talent to maybe get another ring.
But Kobe will not play in another uniform ever. |

Obviously it wouldn't happen unless Kobe wanted it to since he has a no trade clause. If he wanted to leave to join Phil and Fisher then our FO would be off the hook for the large extension we gave him and get no blame for his not retiring a Laker....it would all be on Kobe. |

We'll see. I am not so sure. The lure of Phil and Co along with being top dog at MSG is very enticing!! |

Even if every other aspect of the Lakers Organization is on his last nerve, I'm sure the promises/pull/agreement/ however you want to put it between he and Dr. Buss for Kobe to finish out as a Laker are compelling as well. It's an interesting premise but my soul feels like he will finish here. |

Kobe has said numerous times if he doesn't get 6 in LA he won't be getting it anywhere else. I do not see him leaving LA, even with Phil in NY. |

Why the hell would Melo want to come here with no Kobe? |
1. Because they aren't good and the West is too competitive.
2. New York would love him; there's only one really good team in the East; making playoffs would be much easier; Knicks have his beloved mentor as GM and favorite teammate as coach.
3. He makes the same money on the Knicks.
Also:
4. Tyson Chandler can be his Tyson Chandler. |
These are some valid reasons, I'll admit (....esp #4 ha ha, gold!), but, when its all said and done - I can't see Kobe biting. Not for MSG, not for D-Fish and not even for Phil......unless he thinks there is a legit chance at more rings
I just don't think Kobe would do that to the Lakers. I really don't. The Buss family showed a lot of patience and loyalty to Kobe and especially with Dr Buss now gone, I'm sure Kobe will respect him, the family and the Lakers. I'm positive he wants to stick by his words of being a 'Laker for Life'. I think that would even outweigh his tenacious desire for more championships at this point. |

This is totally where I'm at on this. Even from a basketball perspective, trade away Kobe Bryant, aw hell no!!!
I can see Pau going over, but not Kobe. My soul would bleed if that were to happen. |

No. |
Well I'm on record with this thread that I think/predict we will do a trade with Phil with Pau or Kobe or both. |
It's not official until it's notarized. |

Then I'd become a Knicks fan! I mean Lakers are a skeleton of what they used to be! Who do we have left to root for? An aging star in Kobe? who else? Kendall Marshal? we have no one!
That damn veto and the worst coaching hire of the decade in MDA set this franchise back at least 10 years!

Roth in hell? Dang, I hate when some good foaming-from-the-mouth hyperbola gets ruined by a typo. This sad incident has set Lakerground back at least a decade. |

Sure - if Kobe is traded, you'll root for his new team and forget about the Lakers. Fine with me -- I don't care who you root for. |

I'm melo leaves ny then I think Lakers can sign and trade pau to ny for chandler and shump. With hollins as coach we could be looking at chandler, vonleh, kobe, shumpert, stephenson team that would be interesting defensively. Lance would run the point (most triple doubles in the nba this season) and kobe ofc would handle ball often as well. Dunno just brainstorming. |

What salary do you have Lance at and is Nash gone via stretch waiver? |

Don't dismiss the pull Phil and Fisher have on Kobe. Plus, he always loved playing at MSG!!
How would you feel about this if it happened?
Some of the experts here...what are the S+T options? |
who cares? |

Lmao. If Phil were to do that, it would be proof positive that he's too attached to "his guys" and has no business working as a GM. |

2 reasons why I think Kobe won't leave la for ny

2. NEW YORK AINT LA!!!!

Realistically I doubt it would happen, personally I would be all for it, I think Kobes contract is a bit of an albatross for the Lakers, we send two Lakers on their way and give them a chance to end their careers on a high note, we get out from Kobe's contract and hopefully follow the Miami/Spurs blue-print of bringing together multiple stars together at a more reasonable price as we move forward, I have no idea how you would make a trade like that work, obviously Pau and Kobe have to sign on and the Lakers would have to get something tangible in return, but even getting out of Bryants contract, while perhaps not the best short term move from a business perspective would translate into a much better position financially for reloading the next franchise team, even if it took a couple of years |

He can't have all three. Even two of those things is a stretch. So he'd have to decide what he's willing to give up. And it's too late to give up #1. |
He would accomplish number 1 and 3 just by playing out the rest of his career with the Lakers. So how is doing two of those things a stretch? |
