Yup, except Randle won't need to be taking trips to Miami, have his hairline recede rapidly, and have his jaw enlarged for no apparent reason. |

Goes to show how much instagram matters to folks.
Julius put in tons of work last season too, he just wasn't posting pictures and vids on Instagram (still isn't doing that this year tbh).
The one thing EVERYBODY has praised Julius for since before he was drafted was his exemplary work ethic. |

If you're Magic Johnson and you mandate that every player on your team be in the best shape of his life coming into the season and then Randle shows up to camp like this, how do you even begin to think about trading him? _________________ It was reminiscent of one of those Most Interesting Man in the World advertisements: "I don't always shoot 6-for-28 from the field, but when I do, I become the youngest player in league history to score 28,000 career points." |

Going by the most recent interview Magic feels Randle has the potential to be an all star. He just wants Randle to get better with his right hand. |

I've been on the fence about Randle, I've worried that he will become Bynum, and I mean that in all the worst/negative ways that Bynum became much less than his potential. Randle was injured from the very start, but has come back nicely the last 2 years. His character seems great, works hard at times and then his effort goes down, what you might expect from a typical teenager. His motor, handles, and his rebounding especially in year 2 are all great. What he lacks though is the ability to shoot consistently, show complete focus on the court, and the commitment to being a good defensive player.
He will be making about $5 million a year and I am sure this is going to be a prove it year with Randle, as he is going to want to maximize his value. What would you pay him today on a guaranteed 4 year deal; $5-10 million, a Clarkson $12 million a year deal, or are you in the $15-20 million a year camp? Assuming neither Randle, Deng, or Nance get traded there are 3 guys competing for a lot of the same minutes.
If Randle more or less flat-lines next season: 29 minutes 13.2 ppg, 8.6 boards, 3.6 assists, 49% fg% and 27% (yikes) 3pt% I think $10-12 million is as high as I would go with him. He might even need another prove it year if he wants more than that. That's my opinion, but I guess for me he has not wowed with his overall play.
So I am on the fence with Randle, I've tried not to be a hater, like some posters are about Russell, but I really don't want us giving him a big contract and watch him become disappointing the way Bynum was and acted. I think we really need to decide which one we are keeping between Randle and Deng (who I really have bagged on in the Deng thread), factoring in that Deng is likely going to play better next year, and the cost/reward of trading one player over the other. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions! |

Bynum was fine until his knees finally gave out. He was a hard worker before then, and Randle is one of the hardest workers on this team who has improved year by year. So I have no idea why you would assume that he will flatline. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Julius is approaching this off-season in a very professional manner. He knows that the stakes are high and that his career trajectory hangs in the balance.
His work ethic has never been in question. If he continues to develop his all-around game on both ends of the floor he should have a breakout season. |

Kobe was an excellent 3pt shooter - the %s don't indicate that. Lebron is one of the worst 3pt shooters - the %s sometimes indicate that but not really.
It is really easy to manipulate some of these numbers.
Anyways - in today's NBA a lot of PFs are shooting 3s and I would put Randle at the bottom of that list. He needs to up the ante here. Lose the tunnel vision and bull in a china shop move to the basket - improve the jumper - and for god sake please play some D. |
he hasn't had that since last season. |
Snipes must have a Flux Capacitor or a Hot Tub Time Machine or something. Randle's offensive basketball IQ has improved in ways I never thought possible the previous season. |
LOL? Really? You mean to tell me Randle doesn't run the fast break to a dead end every game? You mean to tell me he doesn't bully his way into the paint with nowhere to go? He improved..but still far from "good". |

randle isn't good enough on offense to be an average defender. Dlo I will take his defensive liability because of his offensive ability. Don't get me wrong Randle is a very good player but he is my top target to trade. I would like to see them trade Randle and maybe even add clarkson to either get another top pick and grab a defensive player or trade them for a veteran but I think some team could take a Randle clarkson package for a top pick |

Randle made some really good decisions on the break this year. Honestly I thought he was mostly fantastic even. |

Same reason people keep worrying about his jump shot even though he's shown steady improvement in that area.
As has been said in this thread many a time before, some people have just made up their mind about Randle and wont budge no matter how many positive signs of improvement he shows. |

I have no agenda here against Randle. I watch the games like the rest of you. Randle has come a long way but is still very far away. Of course he made improvements..he was almost morbid his first year. We have to pay this guy big $ soon - and that is where the bar is when I judge him. Yeah he's out young prospect, but money is due soon and I want to see more. He needs to be a smarter player, needs to play better D and that jumpshot needs a lot of improvement. I hope to eat crow. |

Steady is not good enough. I need to see more. Has the form gotten better? Has his release gotten quicker? Is it confidence? He's slightly more confident. His release is still awful and that shot form is also horrendous. He tosses bricks up there. I have not made up my mind on Randle. I see it how it is. I'm not going to overreact every time he shows positive signs. He's been showing all-star like flashes here and there since his first game in the league. That is not the issue here. Can he do it on a consistent basis? Need to see before we commit that money. |

I completely get your point, but this is exactly what the next season is for. It will be his third real season, which for most stars is where they break out. So this will be the season where we find out whether or not he can reach that potential. And this is why, in my opinion, we should not be worrying about the contract right now. Let him play and we will see. _________________ Kobe |

Randle was extremely raw and still is very raw. However I'am not sure you could've asked for more improvement from a season to another. |

That is my main concern about Randle too. I get mad at him during games for his lack of defensive IQ and awareness. Russell got better on defense, he has some physical limitations but he is smart.
On the other hand, Julius offensive game improved a lot from his rookie season. He had fewer bull in the China shop moments and vastly improved his passing numbers. Even his screens got better, not good yet, but at least he tries every now and then. |
