Glad to see Randle survived the draft. Much more likely we begin the season with him. I'm hoping that, by the trade deadline, Randle busts out and puts to rest any talk about letting him walk or trading him. Seems Randle is doing everything he can this summer to prove all of the haters wrong. I'd like to see him have that chance, at the least.

That's pretty much how I feel. Would at least like to see him in camp and see how his work this off-season panned out before parting ways with him.

Well he's off the team if the Lakers sign two maxes anyways, so how motivated can he be? And how much does it really matter?

Couldn't the Lakers just wait two more off-seasons and let him enter restricted free agency and then match?

No they can give him the QO, after which he's a UFA. Maybe they do that. With the Russell trade, they opened up meaningless cap space that gives them that option

Restricted free agency is next year, not 2 years from now

Unless he becomes an all-star he is our third best asset on the team and I hope he's enough for another team to accept a trade that includes Deng to create cap space.

His cap hold will freeze some of the money that they will try to use on free agents.

I have no clue why the changed the rules for going over your cap to sign your own player. You can do it, but there's much more restrictions. It's unfortunate because that could mean the difference of keeping or trading Randle if he makes it through the season. Only a couple of years ago the Spurs were able to do it by signing LA first then sign Kawhi and go over the cap limit.

We can't benefit from that now.

Yeah, stinks.

I like Randle and want him to say but I still think he gets traded in a Paul George trade.

I'm fully onboard with playing this season out now, and hopefully signing PG13 outright next summer without any issues. Salvage the DLo mess, please...

Trading for PG13 would make us feel better in the short term, but I don't see it as the best long term option if we're giving up 3 or 4 of our young guys. I'd like to at least see what the new and improved Jules can do on the court, to make up for losing out on DLo's gains.

He is steering the boat then. And if he wanted, he can put the screws to the Lakers.

He's playing for a max, whether it's with the Lakers or not. That's motivation enough, I would think.

It's smart. That was a major loophole and I'm glad they've addressed it. The point of Bird Rights was so that you don't lose your own players due to the salary cap.

But it was being abused to allow you to add more players (by waiting to sign your guy until after you finished FA). Good riddance.

Except if he plays up to the level of us giving him a bigger contract doesn't that take away the need for a free agent at his position?

That's kind of the point of drafting someone, you hope they play up to the level where you have to pay them that much. Cause it means they got there.
