I didn't see no effort from Randle tonight. He had 9 and 6 in 18 minutes, but he had had all of those rebounds before he came in for the 4 minutes of garbage time (think he picked up 3 points in garbage time). Prior to that he was on pace for a 12/12 game in 28 minutes though, just played short minutes. He also had a few nice defensive plays.

Is there something you specifically saw in regards to a lack of effort? Like some examples?

Luke Walton got the sense that Julius Randle was a bit frustrated about not starting & didn't feel like he was 100% ready to go tonight

he was pretty terrible. The stats look fine, but he did not play well at all. Poor defense, ball stopping on offense, no off ball movement, etc etc. Same thing we've been seeing for the last two seasons.

He looked good in preseason. I think Luke benching him took the wind out of his sails. It's hard to blame him really. He didn't get many minutes tonight. Luke may have lost him. I blame Luke for that more than I blame Randle.

I'd have to agree. First time I've ever seen him give less than 100% that I can remember. Even then, he still looked like our best player IMO. The only guy who played with any confidence.

Julius and Bogut should never be a thing, just like Nance and Lopez should never be a thing.

The reason is because of the strengths defensively of both of those guys.

Lopez and Nance are both terrible moving their feet on the perimeter, but both solid help side options. Thats why whenever a guard turns the corner on them they are left in the dust. There was even a sequence tonight where they were doubling a guard and he turned a corner and blew past both of them to the basket for a layup.

Bogut is a good rim protector in general, HE is the guy that can clean up in areas where Larry is weak. If Larry gets the corner turned on him and can't keep up, Bogut is the perfect center to step over and make the block and Larry is a good enough guy on the hustle going down hill and on the help side to switch onto whomever Bogut was previously guarding.

Randle is good on the perimeter defensively, he's improved on the help side but his STRENGTH defensively is on the perimeter. Guards aren't usually taking him to the basket on a switch which is why they try to use the pull up jumper instead. Lopez defensively behind Randle works because Randle defending on the perimeter means Lopez doesn't have to step up and "help" when he's switched off with a guard which keeps him in the paint so he he can help if the guard or whomever gets to the basket with Randle contesting, which also allows Randle to get the rebound.

This is the simple cause and effect and fitting the puzzzle pieces together offensively and defensively due to their strengths and where other players can compensate for their weaknesses.

This is a concept Luke has no flipping idea about. And doesn't have any assistants that do either apparently.

Not really. Luke woke him up once he tore into him and the effort in the first few mins. He was there pretty much effort wise for the rest of the night after that. As well as the only guy who played with confidence outside of Clarkson. Played good defense on Griffin in the 3rd as well. Though people will only focus on what Randle did in the first 2-3 minutes he played. Par for the course.

More alarming is that Kuzma played like he was told to stop shooting or "slow it down."

Then I guess him slowing Griffin in the 3rd was a mirage? Decent defense by a guy who quit.

I know he has to be a pro and all, but can you seriously blame him?

I had to finish a movie that made me miss the half and when I saw the score I said nvm.

I don't know how JR played, his stats werent bad but If Randle was being a problem on the bench or on the court I can and will blame him. You're paid millions to play a game get over it and be a Pro.

If he was just a little ticked off than I wouldn't worry about it

I'm as hard on Randle as anyone on the team but "shut up and be happy cuz you're a laker" is delusional at best and the reason we're in this position as a franchise.

Did u watch the game or the box score? Do u know how hard it is to be -25 in 18 minutes? Had horrible turnovers...was taking and clanking contested shots. The second he came in Griffin exploded...couldn’t hedge a pick to save his life. Gave up countless offensive rebounds. I can keep going.

When a coach spews bull[expletive] about "earning" it and "working hard" and you do just that and you watch Ingram never get reprimanded for bad play, and you watch the guy you outplayed get your starting position he didn't earn, AND you watch a guy who DIDN'T EVEN PLAY IN PRE-SEASON THAT MUCH get the start as well at the 3.

A part of you goes "This coach is full of [expletive]."

Think about it this way.

You were working in a corporation.

The boss says "If you work hard and do the deadlines etc you'll get promoted."

So you do just that, you get the most work done and over quota consistently for the next few months. In fact you're their most efficient worker and been Employee of the month for 4 months straight.

But you then see the guy who did less than you and was one of the least efficient workers during that time be the one that gets promoted instead. Does horrible at his new position but his boss is more patient with him than he ever was with you.

Not only that, you see the boss's son who has been bad since he got to the company get constant excuses and hand holding.

AND THEN on top of that the same boss comes to you and instead of giving you your well deserved promotion, goes "I'm gonna demote you to work with the interns, because I really think your efficiency over the last few months will make you stand out a bit more and might inspire them to work harder."

.... How long before you internally say "[expletive] that guy"?
