Because we can't rely on him for a bucket unless we treat him like a role player.

I agree with this take. He probably struggle if we rely on him primarily to make a bucket. He is much better when guys get the ball to his sweet spots But Randle can make plays and his impact is more on the defensive end this year.

Ah. To your point earlier on Lopez, this season the Lopez/Randle pairing has only played together an average of 2.5 minutes per game (and in 7 games). In that time they've averaged +2.6 points. Why we haven't gone to it more is beyond me. In the half court those two are perfect compliments for one another. Lopez's shooting opens lanes for Randle drives, and Randle's rebounding compensates for Lopez's lack of it.

Randle is definitely doing a lot of his damage off ball and on the break. He's so much better in the pick and roll this season though. They've gone to it a lot in his minutes with Ball. They've averaged just 9 minutes per game together (in 17 games) and are a +1.1 in those minutes. I think that speaks a lot to his improvements off ball.

Great game by Jules. Still not keen to keep him next season.

Can we extend Randle and then trade him at deadline? Maybe he will have better trade value if he has some extra years left?

The deadline to extend passed last month.

He should be. I find it much better to have a guy like Randle at 22 if I want to take down the Warriors in 2-3 years as opposed to trying to rush the process of everyone else.

That and his fit with Kuzma, Lonzo and Lopez.

Still want to see this starting unit get a chance.

Lonzo Ball
Brandon Ingram
Kyle Kuzma
Julius Randle
Brook Lopez

Bench:
Clarkson
Hart
Brewer
Nance
Bryant
Zubac
What about KCP?

Meant to put him on the bench at the 3.

If we decided to pay KCP as a role player and he accepted it cause I'm not sure other teams would sell the barn for him at this point or if he's gonna get a contract bigger than what Detroit offered, if anything much less. Then KCP would be a great backup 3 in Brewer's position as Corey's contract ends after this year and he'd serve the same purpose but actually be able to hit threes.

Starters:
Lonzo Ball
Brandon Ingram
Kyle Kuzma
Julius Randle
Brook Lopez

Bench:
Clarkson
Hart
KCP / Brewer
Nance
Bryant
Zubac

That's how I'd go about it. The length/defense in that starting unit, and the defense of the bench unit would work very well together along with the offense of the bench being Clarkson scoring, KCP on the corner threes, Hart as a slasher 3 point shooter, Nance as a defender and Bryant/Zubac as your bigs if you go big or floor spacers.

Works it'd just no more room for veterans. But then again if we had to re-sign Lopez or KCP it means "no max free agents' which means we'd NEED to re-sign Lopez and KCP otherwise the off-season feels even worse.

Great gam, Randle! That's the Randle we hope he could be. A strong finisher around the basket

So if he becomes Lebron James from now to the end of the season, we can't use one of the rookie max slots on him?

He's a restricted free agent. If we want to keep him, we keep him.

He HAS to trust his 3pt shot. It's amazing how many times he's all alone at the 3pt line and he doesn't even think about shooting it. And I don't think Luke is the one who's preventing him to shoot it, I think he doesn't trust himself...

Anyway it's good to see him very engaged, for his 32 minutes, offensively and defensively. It's his first game in which he played more than 30 minutes, and he had the opportunity to play with Lopez. I'm curious to see what was the +/- when they were on the floor together, but from what I remember, it was pretty good !!!

I think LS said GT said it was +11 in the 1st half.
I thought I counted +13.
Don't know about the 2nd half.

It's one game though.
In a game the nuggets didn't hit well from 3 in the 1st half and the Lakers did.
So 2 unusual events.
So hard to say Julius should start yet. But would like to see Luke try it out a little bit to see if it is sustainable.

Gotta love it when supposed Laker fans make excuses for a Laker player having a good game. Downright pathetic.

And you as well. Really sad, this used to be a good message board exulting the Lakers. How times have changed.

I don't make any excuses, I love Randle and wish him to succeed, I was very happy to see his good game. I was just responding about epak's post about the small sample size to judge about how Randle and Lopez play together, and added that Denver's defense was garbage, which is IMO true, so it's too early to say if the duo can really work together. Don't be too dense VLF, in case you didn't notice you're not the most appreciated poster in this board, and probably not the best suited to tell us what it is to be a good Laker fan...

That Julius did well because of two unusual events. I do disagree in one point, I think that when Nance returns he should be starting over Randle. But get Randle some time with the other starters.

We all know he's had good games besides last night. My context was about he and Brook working good together. Which is why I said I dont know if he should be starting. And I said I would like to see Luke try that lineup more so we can see if it's legit or not.

1st quarter playing with Lopez, not 1st half.

He has developed into an elite defensive player and can cover multiple positions well. Those type of guys don't grow on trees.

He is a good low post scorer.

He is a very good rebounder

He is a good passer

He can really run the break.

How do you not give him a qualifying offer? How do you trade him?

One could argue he is our best player this year.
