The keep saying "I don't think he's worth that kind of money" as if last season was the best we could possibly see from him, even though we've seen continual improvement from him.

As I said before the second contract a player gets in the league is usually based on their potential moving forward more than how good they currently are. Julius has undoubtedly shown flashes of something special and he's continued to improve during his time in the league.

I agree. It sucks that he lost his first year, but if you look at him next year as a third year player then the sky is the limit

Lakers Centers last season (per 82 games):

Randle: -3 PER
Mozgov: -5.4 PER
Black: -5.6 PER
Zubac: -8.4 PER
Nance: -11.6 PER

Paul George doesn't like playing power forward. He complained when the Pacers put him there. And Ingram doesn't have the strength to play there at this point.

Wait...negative PER? What is this?

Net betweennthem and the opponent. Of course per doesn't really tell you the net value of the lineup with each guy, or who THE other four are.

Ah, gotcha. It seems like a limited data point, as you note.

Of our 10 best lineups last season, 7 included Randle

The 3 lineups (#1, #7 and #10) that didn't were all bench lineups

2 of these lineups (#2 and #4) with Randle did not have any true center, his front court mate being either Black or Nance

I think you play Ingram at PF, but off the bench against 2nd units to lessen the burden. Let him grow into it. I think he can handle it for 15 minutes per game. This is how I would see the minutes distribution (assuming Clarkson is gone):

PG: Ball (30) / Ennis (18)
SG: Russell (33) / Brewer (15)
SF: George (33) / Ingram (15)
PF: Randle (15) / Ingram (15) / Nance (18)
C: Zubac (20) / Randle (15) / Black or Mozgov (13)

That is a pretty versatile lineup, with a lot of players switching positions if need be depending on stamina, match ups and foul trouble.

Not many forwards make passes like that or beat point guards down the court either.

In other words, our best non-bench line up last year featured Randle at center

You don't keep our "untouchable" on the bench. Doesn't make any sense. With all the rumors going on, even if they are not entirely true, I feel will be a factor later.

Putting out "feelers" is a sign that maybe not this year or next, room will be made for another star. Whether that is Cousins or James, someone will have to go or will leave.

If we see Ingram improve his shot tremendously, D'angelo or Randle will not be here long. It all depends on Ingrams imrpovement.

Ball
George
Ingram
James

Yes Julius is quick and he does pass and have good handles, but IMO at this time he still gives up way more on defense than he contributes on offense. His lazy approach on that end really concerns me. Defense is about desire and willpower. You have to want to play it and Julius looks like he just does not want to do it.

His lack of a jumper makes our spacing a mess, but I will give him credit for working on that, I think he may become an OK shooter at some point at least. But that D? Seems like he does not care.

No one on this board wants Oakafor in a laker uni because he plays no D and Randle is just as bad on D as him.

To be fair he was out for his entire 1st season. Not much to talk about that year.

Yes, the one thing here that really pisses me off. Tank for young players, then want to trade them when they aren't superstars after 1-2 seasons.

And when they realize he's not as good as they hoped, trade Porzingis for Donicic.

Randle looking like a small forward in this interview

Wow.. you can REALLY see the differences. He looks even more fit and thin now than he did when we drafted him.

Sadly the chances of him remaining a Laker is getting slim too. He may be a cap casualty in the 2 max folly.
