I agree with what you are saying Joe, but potentially he may not want to be a Laker. As time goes by, I believe the possibility exists that the feeling could be mutual on both sides. |

Sad to me. I've really grown to appreciate Jules (and JC) this year but this is the real cost of the 2 max plan.
At least for JC/Deng they got their 2016 money. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I guarantee you that he and his agent are not happy with the Lakers. No extension, and in a contract year, he is benched. At least Deng/JC, who may (Deng 100%) get moved as part of the 2 max plan already got paid. Jules is in a contract year.
This could get ugly IMO. |
Solution is plain simple: trade him ASAP. |

There’s nothing wrong about what you’re saying here my man. I’d just add that EVERYTHING will be predicated on offers he gets fromother teams,
I just don’t think he will get the offers that he wants. With the possible exception of Dallas, I don’t see another team paying him more than ten million dollars, and, with the nature of restricted free agency, it doesn’t too much matter whether he wants to play somewhere else or not.
The Lakers have ALL the leverage up until the point where Randle signs a massive offer sheet with another team and, frankly, I don’t think that’ll happen. We’ll see though. |

Do you want Randle on the roster in future seasons if it is evident that he is unhappy with his role of coming off the bench as a small ball center?
From the procedural side, an offer sheet that he agrees to & signs with another team can be accepted/matched by the Lakers. But my question is about the locker room - team chemistry side of the retaining Randle question.
Is he going to be happy getting $10 million (first year) or so when the team will be giving out Max contract(s) for multiples of that $10 million to players that haven't played one minute for the Lakers? |

I like “my” Randle pissed to all hell. I think he’s a better player that way. But to your point though, I’d still have to match a four year offer sheet for ten million per. Pissed or not, he’d be a very valuable trade asset for ten mill a year.
Players swallow their pride all the effin’ time. Bledsoe, Gordon, and many others didn’t want their teams to match the offer sheets they received, but they sucked it up and began playing for their next deal.
In a smallball league with slow-ass Lopez as the starter, Randle will get ample opportunity to earn his keep. |

Randle really needs the speed/athleticism advantage he gets at small ball center to be effective imo. He really hasn't looked good at PF. The only way he works at PF is if the 5 is a legit three point shooter. Hell, he hasn't even really looked too good with Lopez in the limited time they've played together. |

Randle with space is nice and he is extremely effective (almost unstoppable). Randle down low with his back to a defender is usually a hot mess and most likely resulting in a forced shot, a blocked shot, or a turnover. |

The defensive improvement makes him a key piece going forward, imo. |

They've played 8 mins together stretched out over 5 games. Can't imagine much has been learned from that.
Not sure how anyone can judge Randle's impact as a starting 4, until he's spent meaningful time next to our best 5 (who seemingly has a game that complements Randle's nicely). |

it's going to get real interesting in a couple of weeks when Nance gets back. Bogut actually played 20 minutes the other day and clearly Luke wants to play him so... I also wonder if Thomas Bryant has passed Zu on the depth chart. This regime didn't draft Zu, they've got nothing invested in him. They could package Zu and Julius and maybe a 2nd rounder for something - if they've given up the pipe dream of moving any kind of package to move Deng. Then they'd still have Lopez/Bogut/Bryant for the C slot IF they think Bryant is about ready to play 10-15 mins a night. |

I'm still behind Deng+Randle for Wesley Mathews if we must sacrifice Randle to get rid of Luol. Mathews doesn't bring nearly as much as he once did, but he's still gritty and can shoot. Not bad for a backup 2 that can help in the lockeroom and work with the development of Hart. |
