That’s the point, he won’t get paid for what he did last season, it will be for what he is projected to do. Passing on 4 years, $48 mil was really short sighted.

Not really, Julius was overall a very poor player coming into this season....he didn’t earn 4 years $48. It was the right call. Not getting extended challenged him and he rose to the challenge, he’s worthy of that now and maybe a bit more.

If he would have shown the work ethic and dedication he exhibited this season prior to getting challenged, he would have gotten his money. Maybe if he would have gotten his 4/48 he wouldn’t have gotten in better shape, because he certainly didn’t make the effort before that.

He has shown the work ethic and dedication since before he came into the league but I wouldn’t expect you to recognize that.

If Lakers had offered Julius the extension and he accepted, the Lakers probably would have traded Julius like they did JC for a chance at 2 max players.

His $4 mil wouldn’t have made much of a difference

Wasn't the extension up to his cap hold: $12.4 M?

Would have kicked in this upcoming season I think

But at a hard cap no?
Currently, we can sign 2 max guys and then sign Julius over the cap.

But if he signed the extension, could we have done that?

I think so, if we traded Deng and his number was like 12 million. It is still a 12 million cap hold, so it would be about the same, but we are allowed to go over the 12 million of we trade Deng and signed 2 max, we would just have to sign Julius last. If he signed the extension he would have been locked in at 12 million I think.

Cool. thanks.
Just wanted to make sure it wasnt $4M.

It's easy to forget sometimes that Julius Randle is only 23 years old, his jump this year was massive.

From his first two seasons combined compared to his third:
2 less minutes per game
+ 4 PPG
+10%
offensive rating improved by 10
defensive rating improved by 3
VORP improved by 1.5
BPM improved by 2.0
DBPM improved by 0.2
more win shares in every category (offensive, defensive, per 48 and total)

defense and shooting should still be the main focuses for him, even if he never ups his PPG but stays this efficient, combining that with a really good defender would be scary.

If he ever gets a jumpshot, issa wrap

If Julius is retained it will be because the FO believes that he's a long-term fit.

Bobby Marks on the nba combine show, saying it may not be good to be a big in FA this year due to all the quality bigs in the draft this year. Might be good for the Lakers if Julius can be had for a lower price.

I know everyone wants Jules on the cheap but with the work he's put in and the improvement and attitude adjustment he has shown, he deserves every penny he wants.

Sure let's just give him a blank check and let him write in the amount he wants.

I've gotta say, I enjoy when Julius speaks.
Calm and honest.

Ireland said on the radio a few minutes ago that Randle is shooting 1,000 3pt shots per day. Sounds great. The only concern though is that, if you practice doing something the wrong way, all you will do is become really good at doing that thing the wrong way. Hope that twist in Randle's jump shot is being eliminated as part of those 1,000 daily attempts.

No, they "deserve" it when this team gets to the playoffs. Paying for stats leads to treadmill or bad contracts

Why not, the only number that matters is his $12.4 mil cap hold, what we end up paying him means nothing.

If your eyes are only worried about this year.
It'll matter if the Lakers are looking at 2019 for instance.

While the Lakers have not begun hard negotiations with Randle, they have kept the line of communication open with his representatives.

Watching these playoffs, having a small ball center who can switch and recover is so invaluable.

Lakers' front office say they have been in touch with Julius Randle, but his agent says his future is unclear

Quote:
Randle's camp is unsure of how mutual the interest has been.

"We still have no indication of where Julius stands among the Lakers' priorities, or if he is a priority at all," Randle's agent Aaron Mintz said Saturday in response to Pelinka's comments. "We are looking forward to the marketplace in July, when we will get a clear picture of Julius' future."
