I like your optimism, but they couldn't even win the Summer Pro League tournament.

If Scott cares about defense like he says he does, my wish should come true. I like Clarkson's athleticism and size at the point guard position. I could see him being an impact player and a better than average backup point guard. Even if he makes some mistakes early on in the season, I think he can outperform expectations if given ample playing time.

Nash will probably start in place of Clarkson due to being a veteran but due to defense and scoring ability of clarkson. He will probably get more of the minutes.

For a guard..

He can't shoot outside 15 feet
He can't cover the ball handler
He can't dribble too well

All he seems to be good at is going to the rim in transition or using his size to attack the rim against a smaller player.

I don't see him making it in the NBA.

he's improved Jamaal.. that's what players aim to do in the summer ya know. and he's young , ya know. In summer league he showed a lot of promise in all of the areas you mentioned.

At least for summer league play, he did all those things well enough.

The team thought otherwise about John Celestand,Sam Jacobsen, Von Wafer, Javaris Crittendon, Devin Ebanks, Derrick Caracter, Darius Morris, etc.

A team signing a player does not mean the player will make it in the NBA.

To be fair, different scouting staff.

Marc Gasol. Luke Walton. Devean George. Even Ryan Kelly. Good 2nd round picks.

I'm not sure where all this pessimism is coming from. Or, if it's even warranted. The guy's a ROOKIE.

Granted, there are people who look at his potential and have stars in their eyes about what he'll do for us. But, I'll take unwarranted optimism, over undue skepticism, any day.

I like Clarkson, and I believe that with Nash's minutes likely limited, he'll get the opportunity to prove himself (behind Nash and Lin, of course).

Neither the pre-season, or the season, have started yet. If there's any time to be excited for your team, and the possibilities, it would be now. I know I'm excited!

Really? That’s interesting because he recently played in a tourney with and against other NBA players and he was the best player on his team. In fact, scouts (I assume they were scouts) were commenting that he looked like a lottery pick and some were speculating that the reason he hadn’t yet been signed, was because the Lakers were looking for a way to sign him even longer than the 2 years they were limited to. Whether or not that is true is beside the point. What IS evident is that this kid has shown that he belongs in the NBA.

Perhaps your scouting skills need some work because you seem to begin with, “assume the worst as a first resort, ignore any positive signs you see, don’t consider any positive reviews from NBA people, and then tell everyone on a fan forum that the player sucks.”

Incidentally, his percentage at the NBA 3 point line was pretty darned good in summer league, just in case you missed it.

Good. He showed some good things in Summer League...it make take him some time to develop and actually contribute at this level; nevertheless, the potential is there...

Great contract info.....

Clarkson will receive a fully guaranteed minimum salary for the 2014-15 season at $507,336 and a non-guaranteed $845,059 for 2015-16, totaling $1.35 million.

If Clarkson sticks with the team to opening night in 2015, his salary locks in for the entire year.

The Lakers will be able to make Clarkson a restricted free agent before the 2016-17 season, with a qualifying offer of $1.18 million.

So basically we have a team option on the second year and have him restricted for 2016. Good job Mitch. Thought Clarkson was gonna do what Kelly did and go for RFA next summer.

Some scouts even think Clarkson is the best player overall in that tournament. Too bad we have don't have much footage of that OVA tournament.
