Kobe reunites with phil and Fisher. Melo resigns with NY and they are top 4 team in the East.

Amares contract expires after this year, so we would have money for next years FA class

This would assure us the worst record in the league, and we will be able to keep our top 5 picks for next year.

If we can't get Melo here, if we can't field a championship team. Honestly, that would be sweet for the NBA. Kobe would get a shot at the ring, and our rebuild would be faster.

If not for the fact that Kobe is essentially an icon here, that isn't as wacky as it sounds.

Phil wouldn't be responsible for the most grammatically poor thread title on page 1 of the LD forum. =)

I agree with the OP. Why wast Kobe's last couple of seasons, we have not been able to bring in free agents and build a team that can truly compete. I would do Kobe for Amare, Shumpert, and what ever the next 1st round pick is that they can trade.

I'm a laker fan and a Kobe supporter, but it would be best for both players. If Kobe is serious about competing for rings before he retires Los Angeles is not the best situation for him. Reports say Gasol was only considering staying if we got melo, and If that does not happen we should explore our options. Most notable free agents like Bledsoe, Monroe, parsons, and Hayward are restricted so there is little chance we get them. Besides, is there anyone you really want taking up a max slot after melo?

It's far more likely that the Lakers locate the Fountain of Youth and use it to return KAJ and Magic to their prime and resign them than it is they trade Kobe at this point in his career.

Trading Kobe makes NO sense no matter how you cut it. But trading him for jello knees makes this thread lock worthy.

For something that would be a net win for the Lakers franchise? Certainly.

I'd pack Kobe's bags if it meant we could get Lebron and Melo together here.

Whatever it takes to get rings for this franchise, is what I'm on board with. You?

LOL then next year CNBC can run a quick bit on how the Lakers went from making $150M in profits to making $20M.

Actually, this silly idea is more about trading him for the contract of jello knees, not jello knees himself. Jello knees is included in the package as a free value add. Ha.

I think there's a lag time though. For instance, this year, we made $100M in profit which is way more than most years. But Kobe basically was non-existent this year.

Hard to argue his absence caused the increase in profits so clearly there is a lag time. Not having Kobe wouldn't cause profits to decline immediately, but slowly over time most likely. In either case, the Laker brand is more powerful than any one player.
