Thought I would start a thread so we can have an idea of what the current roster is shaping up to be like.

As of 07/18/14, this is what we have:

Guards
Kobe Bryant, G - $23.5M (14/15) $25M (15/16)
Steve Nash, PG - $9.7M (14/15) expiring
Jeremy Lin, PG - $8.3M (cap hit 14/15) expiring
Nick Young, G/F - $5M (14/15) (4 yr $21.5M deal)
Xavier Henry, G/F - $1M (14/15) expiring

Forwards
Julius Randle, PF - $3.0M (14/15) $3.1M (15/16) $3.3M (16/17-team)....
Jordan Hill, F/C - $9M (14/15) $9M (15/16 - team option)
Ed Davis, F/C - $1M (14/15) $1M (15/16 - player option)
Carlos Boozer F/C - $3.25M (14/15) expiring
Wes Johnson F - $1M (14/15) expiring
Ryan Kelly PF - $1M (14/15) expiring << waiting on details but Lakers did make him a $1M qualifying, making him a restricted FA

Centers
Robert Sacre, C - $915k (14/15) $981k (15/16 - team option)

Total Salary Commitment 14/15 - $66.66M

Total Expiring contracts - $35.16M (if team option/player option not exercised)

12 players on the Roster

Likely to be added:
G - Jordan Clarkson

Feel free to help me with updates.

Things are looking a little bit better (at least the Lakers could field a team now)!

Nick young is not starting. He shouldn't, everyone saw how bad he was as a starter. He is that fire we need off the bench.

Oh man. For his sake (and ours) I sure hope not.

I haven't seen anything about Dunleavy or a S/T with the Bulls. Where did you guys see that?

Well we will have a lot of cap space next offseason. We need to acquire more picks and young talent for the rest of this offseason to attract big fish. Randle is a very good start. Nick young as a back up isn't terrible but that seems like it. I hope we can do more.

We have to get X back, and X stands for Xavier Henry just in case.

So now that we're not S&T Pau, do we have any free cap space left or just the 2.7 LLE and vet mins?

Thanks to KobeRe-loaded for this topic.

It is so much easier to decipher than that 2400+ post free agency thread, and has the added benefit of simply presenting the facts as they are known, instead of presenting rumors and opinions based on rumors as "facts."

I hope the mods agree and sticky this topic.

You're welcome. I was getting lost with who we signed and for what so I figure I may as well create a topic on it.

Gives us a better perspective on who's on the roster so far and how much cap space will be available.

I've been looking at the roster and scratching my head after Gasol left with no compensation for the Lakers. I'm starting to wonder if they look at Jordan Hill as their starting Center now? Maybe Hill has put on some muscle and weight? I know the Lakers like Ryan Kelly and he should get stronger in the offseason so that would certainly alter:

C: Jordan Hill, Sacre
PF: Julius Randle, Ryan Kelly

as far as SF... I guess Wes Johnson is coming back? NOBODY knows how to disappear for long stretches at a time like Johnson but with Bazemore gone and the money that is available, who's left? Metta? LOL! Maybe I shouldn't laugh, it could probably happen...

SF: Wes Johnson, Nick Young
SG: Kobe, Xavier
PG: Lin, Clarkson, Kendall Marshall, Nash

I think Jordan Hill will get a good look at being the starting center, he did time there when both Pau and Kaman were out. Put up some good numbers, last season in 21 minutes he put up 10 pts and 7.5 reb. He will get at least 30 mpg, and simply bumping the numbers up - I can see him average 14-15 pts and about 10 reb a game.

Lakers I think should look at Jermaine O'Neal and Ed Davis to round out the 4/5 spots in addition to bringing back Ryan Kelly.

yeah, I don't know anymore? looking at the roster, it's like Batman... and we're having tryouts. If Lin and Kobe work well together and Randle and Hill work out at PF and C, it's not an allstar lineup but assuming... Randle is a solid 15/10 guy, Hill comes in around that 14/10 range, Lin and Kobe along w/Nick Young off the bench carry the scoring load... I think the Lakers give Ryan Kelly a full shot this year to give 25 minutes/game off the bench so I don't see Mitch bringing in any vets unless they are 10 minute/game type vets... so the obvious offseason target next season would be a SF... maybe we find another "Xavier" in the NBA trashheap at the SF slot for this season? Otherwise, they're assuming Wes Johnson actually becomes a productive player alongside Kobe... what are the odds of that? 1 in 10? LOL!

PostPosted: Mon Jul 14, 2014 12:15 pm    Post subject: Current (7/14/14) Cap Situation and Roster

can anyone please clarify WHO we have signed and what our cap space potential still is?

Kobe - signed
Randle - signed
Lin - acquired
Sacre - signed (is his contract guaranteed)?
Marshall - did we pick up his option? if not, when do we have to do so? is his contract guaranteed?
Kelly - did we extend him a QO? I guess no one has offered him a contract other than us? if he accepts, how much and is it guaranteed?
Young - agreed to, but unsigned?
Hill - agreed to, but unsigned?
Nash - signed for, can be stretched
Clarkson - assuming he gets a minimum contract from us

so with the guys accounted for, and with the guaranteed money accounted for and taking into consideration the current cap holds (and bird rights in hill's case), what is the theoretical potential cap space we could have left?

9, 10 million?

Quick: Up to $9.4 million if the Lakers stretch Steve Nash and let go of Ryan Kelly and Kendall Marshall. Before Jordan Hill signs, roughly $2.5 million in space.

So if we keep Ryan Kelly, but stretch Nash and waive Marshall, we have about $8.4 million to pay someone?

Question, if we go above the cap, do we then get to use the MLE? What happens to the room exception?
