Out of this roster, only one player is willing & tries to play defense = Jordan Hill... It's gonna be a long season & not looking forward to being down by 18 points a game at half time once again...

I agree from what I can see Ed Davis and Randle are pretty solid.

Lakers are the first team in NBA history to implement a entire lineup without any Small Forward, you heard it here first

I think Kobe is the SF and Nick Young is his backup, with Henry the third guy. It's very possible that L.A. is not going towards small-ball but rather as small as possible ball without being undersized.

They're going bare minimum height and size wise on the wing and in the post.

As much as I would like to see JLin start and do well, to me it seems that starting Nash for a few minutes might be more beneficial to the team.

Nash would be more warmed up at the start of the game.
Nash can be the marksman shooter playing with Kobe who will as usual be ball dominant.
Nash could play some pick and roll with Boozer if for some reason they decide to start Boozer over Randle.

Bring Lin in after Nash plays a couple of minutes.
Have Lin finish the games.

So that would make a starting line up of:

Hill
Boozer
SF
Kobe (unless Kobe plays SF)
Nash

Maybe Xavier could fill that SF or SG position, which ever one Kobe doesn't play.

Then the bench could be:
Ed Davis or maybe RKelly if you want to open up the middle for Randle)
Randle
SF
Young
Lin

Maybe Clarkson can play SG for the bench and Young can move to SF?

Just a thought.....

I think the Lakers still need a good two way SF. Are there any available?

Could Xavier (barring injuries) step up and be that person? Isn't he like 6'6 o r 6'7?

I'm sure he learned a lot last season actually getting some playing time.

Hopefully he has been working on his outside shooting and freethrows.

X is coming off surgery so I would expect him to be about the same. Poor shooter, poor at the FT line. No thanks.

Ryan Kelly signed.

Mike Bresnahan @Mike_Bresnahan · 6 min
Busy day for the Lakers, who reached agreement with Ryan Kelly, Xavier Henry and Wesley Johnson. Not many roster spots left.

Mike Bresnahan @Mike_Bresnahan · 2 min
Don't know terms for Kelly yet. Guessing either one or two years.

Sweet:

Nash | Kobe | Wes | Boozer | Davis
Lin | Young | Henry | Randle | Hill

I like it. And just in case: Kelly, Clarkson, Sacre.

I think we're going to go after one more PG. Unless the team is going to go all in with Clarkson.

Thank you sir. Updated.

I think it is $1M ... since Lakers made him a qualifying offer. Not sure about a 2nd yr option etc.

I think Mitch has done a great job ... especially to maintain flexibility.

My guess on the starting lineup

PF - Boozer
F - Wes Johnson
C - Hill
G - Kobe
PG - Lin

Key bench guys
G/F - Nick Young
F/C - Ed Davis
F - Ryan Kelly
G - Xavier

We go 9 deep and i'm not even counting on Nash contributing.

Haha oops ... rookie

10 deep!! If things click, who knows Lakers could be fighting for an 8th seed.

I really think this group could surprise under the right system.

Team is bound to have some luck especially with health.

nomoreshaq wrote:
can anyone please clarify WHO we have signed and what our cap space potential still is?

Kobe - signed
Randle - signed
Lin - acquired
Sacre - signed (is his contract guaranteed)?
Marshall - did we pick up his option? if not, when do we have to do so? is his contract guaranteed?
Kelly - did we extend him a QO? I guess no one has offered him a contract other than us? if he accepts, how much and is it guaranteed?
Young - agreed to, but unsigned?
Hill - agreed to, but unsigned?
Nash - signed for, can be stretched
Clarkson - assuming he gets a minimum contract from us

so with the guys accounted for, and with the guaranteed money accounted for and taking into consideration the current cap holds (and bird rights in hill's case), what is the theoretical potential cap space we could have left?

9, 10 million?

I've been working off Eric's Laker Team Salary Page on Basketball Insiders and Sportrac's Laker Page and their Cap Table.

Code:

Name                      2014-15
Kobe Bryant               $23,500,000
Steve Nash                $ 9,701,000
Jeremy Lin                $ 8,374,646
Carlos Boozer             $ 3,251,000
Julius Randle             $ 2,997,360
Robert Sacre              $   915,243
Sub-Total                 $48,739,249

Jordan Hill (unsigned)    $ 9,000,000
Nick Young (unsigned)     $ 5,018,231
Ryan Kelly (unsigned)     $ 1,016,482
Ed Davis (unsigned)       $   981,084
Wesley Johnson (unsigned) $   915,243
Xavier Henry (unsigned)   $   915,243
Sub-Total                 $17,846,283

Guaranteed Total:         $65,569,050
Inclusive Total:          $66,585,532

Cap max is $63,065,000. As of right now, the Lakers have $14,325,751 of cap space, so long as those guys don't ink their deals.

With the exception of the unsigned guys (Hill, X, Wes, Nick, Kelly), the remaining cap holds are wiped out because Jodie, Farmar, Bazemore, Pau all signed.

Something has got to be up.

No coach, players with agreements still not signed, Kobe now saying everything is peachie poo in Laker Land and he understands the plan.

I don't know what to make of this. I can speculate, but it's almost pointless.
