Because that's just completely not his game. IMHO a large part of the Lakers problems has been playing folks out of position and/or against their strengths. Then folks wanna get mad when they don't perform well. LOL! Sacre is a serviceable backup, let's just get an actual Center to be our Center.

It's not like he has to check Shaq or anything. The bigman positions are usually interchangeable. He will be matched up against centers sometimes, as probably will Randle occasionally.

Fixed.

Seriously out of all the ideas I've seen on this site historically and recently, I think I LOL'd the hardest at this one. To put it simply 'NO'.

Kelly is a PF or perhaps actually could almost work better at SF. He is by no means a C. Kelly does not have the bulk/size, back to the basket game or defence to attempt to play the C position. Please just stop.

Ha! I actually meant to write it the way you had it.

yes Kelly would do great at starting center, he would really help us get that #1 pick in the lottery!

Or atleast keep us in the bottom 5.

I was looking at the combine numbers, and was shocked to see that Kelly has a 9'2" standing reach, which is actually decent center size in the NBA.

I think his physique just made him look a lot smaller than he actually is. Hopefully he did some bulking up during the offseason.

You have to be either long or wide to play center, both are not necessary. Dejaun Blair is 6' 7" and does it.

So what if Kelly gets posterized, all he has to do is go back down the court on offence and drain the 3. All he's gotta do is outscore the other centre right?

Can't believe we lost the most dominant defensive center and most offensive talented center in back to back year for a bag of peanuts.

I would let Kelly play just about anywhere. I just want him to develop to be an asset either with us or with another team. If he appears useful at center, I am ok with that.

It's not like he has to check Shaq or anything. The bigman positions are usually interchangeable. He will be matched up against centers sometimes, as probably will Randle occasionally.

To elaborate on this, there are not a whole lot of Centers in the league that actually have any post moves. Outside of the Gasol brothers and maybe D Howard who is going to kill him in the post? Robin Lopez? Deandre Jordan? Perkins? Noah? Most of those guys barely touch the ball on offense. His biggest weakness would be on the boards, but if you put him out there with Randle or Hill they can do most of the board work.

The huge upside comes on offense where he spaces the floor for penetration from Lin, Kobe, Swaggy, etc. Especially when he plays with Randle who likes to drive from the wings. Our spacing would be epic with Kelly at C.

True dis! Or even a spot in the NBA.

I think this discussion is sad.

But then my heart says "what if..."

He is basketball smart. There aren't many great centers out there to guard. He would present a mismatch to centers.

In the "end" though, I think he's to light in his rear and I seem to remember him getting pushed around a lot.

"If he just bulks up some" is the new "Can he guard Westbrook?"

So with Ed Davis, we have a glut of PFs with Randle/Hill/Davis (though Hill/Davis can play some center). Is kelly not coming back?

True good point, maybe Hill in a package at mid season to get a SF or true C? We'll see.

I Think we should get a true Center ASAP though.
