Malaysia Airlines said on its Twitter feed that it "has lost contact of MH17 from Amsterdam. The last known position was over Ukrainian airspace. More details to follow." |
If this is true, then the dung is about to hit the fan. Either way, this has been a bad year for Malaysia Airlines. |

US carriers have been barred from flying over Ukraine, the Black Sea and Crimea since April.
I guess Malaysian Airlines didn't feel it was a risk to their passengers to keep flying over a war zone. |

| Malaysia and Russia had decent relations with each other. I'm guessing thats shot now if the Russian military shot it down. Malaysia also purchases state of the art Russian jets for their military as well. |

The rebels wouldn't have all that sophisticated military equipment if Russia didn't give it to them. |

Why did they allow the pilot to make a flight plan that included flying over a war zone?

I doubt sanctions will change Russia's behavior. For one unlike those smaller countries, Russia is a major world power and has its own set of allies in Central and South America, Africa, Asia and Middle East who don't have friendly relations with the west. Will they replace all that money that they lost from the west? Probably not. But it will just increase their involvement in those other countries in which they used to have major alliances during the Cold War. |

| i would not be surprised Ukrain force pretend to be separatist shut it down so they would force US' hand to get more involve in getting Russians out of Ukrain. think about it, there's nothing to gain by Russian or Ukrain sepratist by shooting down that plane. |
