WELCOME BACK TO THE LAKERS B SCOTT...AS OUR HC!!

We have a coach finally....4 years @17m.

Much longer than I wanted....I wanted 2 year max.

I hope I'm wrong....at least 4th year is a team option. So really 3 years unless he does terrific (I hope so)!!

Ramona Shelburne ‏@ramonashelburne
Lakers have agreed to terms with Byron Scott to be their next head coach

Ramona Shelburne @ramonashelburne
The Lakers will hold a team option on the fourth-year of the deal with Byron Scott

Why???

There is no Official B. Scott thread here...I looked. Only a "Coaching Search" thread....search is over now.

Good. In 3 years, either Calipari or Ollie should be ready to move on from their respective schools.

Would have preferred it to be 2 years but at least the last year is a team option.

Add Gary Payton to that list and we're golden.

I know. But it is only 1 extra year (3) not 2 that I really wanted!! I can't believe Scott wouldn't have settled for 2 if we stayed firm. But if we really want someone else in 2 years we just pay Scott the 4M for the 3rd year and let him go.

You know, I don't know much of Bryon Scott's coaching philosophy to be honest. I know he orchestrated the Nets to back to back Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003 and in 2008 had an extremely good New Orleans Hornets team with Chris Paul. If anything, I can assume he's point guard friendly and that'll be good for Jeremy Lin.

I will say this, Scott is LA friendly. He won't get the heat that Mike Brown or Mike D'Antoni got, regardless of how the team does. That's good for the team since there will be less drama on that front.

One thing I do hope is that he brings Dave Miller on as an assistant coach. He was an assistant coach with him in New Orleans and after that was a radio analyst for AM 710 out in Los Angeles for the Lakers and now is a TWC Lakers analyst. He's a defensive minded coach and I'd love to have him on the team.

He obviously wanted the chance to coach the team (and perhaps "legitimately prove" himself) if it potentially landed a superstar (or two) like LeBron or Durant in 2016...

Plus Madsen, Cooper and Dave Miller.

Don't believe Kareem or Worthy want to coach.

What is it with Mitch and signing coaches for four years every time?

Coop is recovering from cancer.

I think the 3 guaranteed years is fair for Byron. Not much anyone can do with our current roster and anything less than 3 years is too short for a head coach.
Good luck Byron!

We will have to eat the third year of his contract in 2016, in order to get a better coach for Durant...

Why would a coach ever take a 2 year deal? He would undermining himself by making himself a possible lame-duck coach after one season.

That aside, I hope things work out for Byron this time around.

I have to say that we have wasted money in coach contract than anything else.

Learned and patented my jumper solely on this cat. Was my favorite SG of all time until this brash 17yr old kid from Philly garnered that respect. Took me a while tho I used hate on Kobe as a show off in his rookie year (not vlf level vicious hate but just didn't like his too flashy).

I agree with the other poster that he has much longer leash with la fans and media b/c he's native and a laker legend. I approve the signing.
