I can definitely see Byron bringing in Laker legends to speak to the team consistently throughout the year. I always liked him being the coach simply because I feel he does not want to disappoint his hometown team. |

Making some noise isn't a 6th seed who very likely goes out in the first round.
If you're gonna go bold on a prediction, then do it. 6th seed? Making noise? Uhhh... no. _________________ Dominating every day. |

6th is fine by me. Face the 3rd seeded clips and kick their butt. Then face the 2nd seeded spurs in round 2. Then the 1st seeded thunder. Then meet the bulls in the finals. Beat pau in 5 games. |

I get where you're coming from, but with the current team being rag tag I'd consider a 6th seed out West a pretty good outcome. I don't know what kind of noise that makes, and I know only rings are true success in LA but I mean come on. I mean it took 49 wins for Dallas to get the 8 seed, Phoenix may have slightly improved and I don't see any of those 9 bombing. Also, if they've earned a 6 seed and have a healthy Kobe I personally wouldn't consider them likely to go out in the 1st. |

Interesting. According to Rotoworld, the Lakers were 2nd in the league in isolation defense and had the best defense in pick-and-rolls against the roll man. They were however one of the easiest teams to get an offensive rebound against, which was to be expected. Check out the report here.

My ultimate pipe would be taking out the Spurs in the first round as the 8th seed, then the Rockets, the Clips in the WCF, and the Bulls in the Finals. A man can dream right? |

The guy bleeds purple and gold.
Also, he's going to put it on the team to know that his buddies like Magic, Worthy, Coop, etc... are all watching and they will be seriously peeved if this crew doesn't have the pride to go out there and compete hard every night.
I just wonder who the ass-kicking player is going to be when Kobe is retired. Who else has that kind of intensity and the power to hold everyone else accountable?
The Showtime Lakers has Cooper to do it, so it doesn't have to be one of the stars. It just has to be someone that consistently works hard and is willing to get in the faces of those that don't. |
Very nice post my sentiments exactly. People don't put enough value in the pride factor. Byron will give it his all not to fail and I think the Lakers will eventually realize he's going to be their long term coach. Someone who's proud of that uniform and understands what it means to be a Laker. Add opposed to bringing a college coach with no experience or a retread (as some here use the term) with no previous Laker affiliation. |
I concur. Nice post. I for sure have guys that self police but yeah not sure if there's another leader like Kobe to get in teammates ears. But maybe that's why Byron was a fits hire to do just that |

We're ranked like 28th or 29th. Making the 6th seed is definitely making some noise. If we can make some of the teams above us in seeding a bit nervous, that's a job well done in my book. Of course, it's only the first step, but if we have a better developed Randle (if he pans out) and our youngsters buy in and play good defense, we will put ourselves in good position to pick up some great free agents and contend once again. |

Byron is a defensive-oriented coach... that's what he focuses on first. If the Lakers can play good defense, we'll surprise people.
As much as i like Gasol... he destroyed our defense because he was the anchor in the middle. Davis is a defensive specialist. Nowhere near the overall player that Gasol is, but we don't need that. With Boozer and Randle, we have plenty of offense in the front court.
The other key is Kobe... is he going to be a good defender? Doesn't need to get anywhere near he previouse defensive greatness obviously. But he does need to hold his own out there.
It will be interesting no doubt. |

Who said a first round exit?
I expect the team to start off okay, but really start to gel later in the season. Too late for a high seed. |

6th seed? Isn't that like 53-55 win territory. Wow. People really going a bit overboard here. 8th seed is 48-50 win territory, and that'll be amazing if we can get that. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

People who aim low will never prosper. You have to always believe in yourself, that you can be better!!!! We need to start the season with a positive mind frame, not start the season "just hoping" for 8th seed!!!! That's a loser mentality!!! I don't care what the team looks like, you aspire to succeed and be the best, period!!!! _________________ New Beginings |

Ok. So because I'm realistically analyzing the roster, that's a loser's mentality?
Read the insane posts from last year predicting mid-playoff seeding.
I enter this season with eyes wide open, again. I think this will be a much more enjoyable team to watch. Everyone will be giving effort as this team is composed of lots of cast-offs, written-off players. If we were in the East, I'd be more optmistic, but I've researched what it takes to make the playoffs and we'll be hard pressed to get to 48-50 wins (8th seed).
But I'm looking forward to seeing Randle develop, and hopefully a healthier season from Kobe/Nash, plus Lin of course. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |
