As Steve Nash makes news by saying this is his last year, it made me think of other players who excelled elsewhere, but came to the lakers and bombed died to injury or age.

Put all those players on a team in their prime and they would have made a great team! Let's make the best team we can from these players.

So . . . here are the rules. The player must have excelled in another setting. The drop off of their game had to happen when they came to the Lakers. The Lakers were depending on them and got burned.

Here's my all time team, what's yours?

PG - Steve Nash future HOF
SG - Aaron McKie
SF - Cedric Ceballos
PF - Karl Malone future HOF
C - Benoit Benjamin

Malone was great for us as a 3rd/4th option.
Ceballos was great for us too.

I'll say Troy Murphy and JR Ryder.

Malone played great defense in the Western Conference Finals against Duncan and Malone was playing with one leg!. He literally shut down Duncan better than Shaq ever had.

You really expected something from Ben-wa?

All mine are 4s: Spencer Haywood, Maurice Lucas ,Dennis Rodman.

Dwight Howard - guy had a chance of being immortalized, instead chose to play second fiddle to Harden. LOL
NVE - Cancun.
Eddie Jones - got Glen Riced.
Magic - too short a career (couldve won 2-3 more)
Karl Malone - hunting-gate
Aaron Mckie/Jim Jackson
Kwame Brown - cake episode
Lamar Odom - initiating from out of bounds
Pau Gasol - quit after the last championship run
Cedric Ceballos - gone fishin'
Steve Nash - unable to play

Isaiah Rider
Shammond Williams (Although not much was expected. There was some hype around him.)
Vlade Divac (Wasted our MLE in 2005 on him)

I don't know why you would put Ced Ceballos on your list. He had his best years with us. He was our lone star during our down years. The only thing that was disappointing was Lake Havasu....and possibly Flow On.

Kwame Brown. We gave up Caron to get him. But, we did end up with Pau for him. So, I'll give him a pass.

The 2 that come to mind are Howard and Nash. For obvious reasons.

Dennis Rodman
Isiah Rider
D12
Nash
Payton

Karl Malone was good for the Lakers until the injury to his leg, shouldn't be on any lists IMO.

I love Cedric Ceballos... but he put himself over the team. it's disappointing.

Are you (bleep) kidding me? You put Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom on this list? They won us two championships you fool

You should have your account removed for listing those two

Payton put up 15 and 5. Solid numbers. But yes, he did disappoint late in the playoffs.

But, the OP mentioned having a drop off in their games when with the Lakers. Sure going AWOL was disappointing, but Ced had career years with us.

Dude was getting compared to Manu and Ray Ray in the 08 playoffs, but fell off the map once Shannon Brown became a rotation player.

And btw OP, when did Benoit ever excel?

Speaking of Benoit, Doug Christie who came along with him, belongs on your list. He was touted coming out of Pepperdine and was pretty good for the Kings while doing next to nothing for the Lakers.
