It would be great to have him back in the Laker fold.

Byron Scott's staff taking shape soon. Possibilities: Paul Pressey, Mark Madsen and...Robert Horry. Lakers recently contacted Horry about it

Pressey and Madsen make sense. Both have coaching experience.
Horry could be interesting. Never had the impression from his commentary duties that he wanted to coach.
Coop should be included. He has a stellar reputation as a coach. His players seem to love him.
Going to be very interesting to see how the Laker Pride movement and coaching intensity is going to play with the current players. I especially worry about Young for some reason. |

Lakers contemplated Madsen being our HC now but felt he needed more time/experience first. We better hold onto him....a great future coach option! |

Me too because of his happy outlook at all times...which Scott doesn't allow after a loss. But Scott loves Swaggy P so I think they'll work it out. |

I don't get the hype for GP ahead of guys like Pressey and Madsen.
Pressey was one of the great defensive players and has been an assistant for 15+ years.
Madsen is an assistant who was put in charge of player development, a big deal with all the youngsters we have.
I don't think GP has ever coached anywhere before? He might be good to add on AFTER more experienced guys, but I want a qualified, experienced coaching staff on-board first. |

Horry would be great for teaching players to stay cool under fire
If he can teach anyone to shoot like he did and to have the intangibles like him then how could we say no? |

Horry would be great. A "contemporary" coach, to go along with Byron from the 80's, who has won multiple championships. |

We know about Coops tongue cancer. It was already removed and he is returning to coaching in 2 weeks. So, it won't affect his being an asst coach for us.
I want....
Madsen
Cooper
Horry |

I'd love Horry.
I'd also dig GP.
But I'd really love Coop.
His defensive coaching aside, just having a second "Showtime" voice in the locker room and in practice would really help re-enforce to the guys what B is talking about - and what B is going to be asking them to do.
Coop as that second voice, who's been through Riley's system, will only help add even more credibility to the culture we're trying to build again. _________________ Everything. Changes. |

I don't see Cooper coming either, not because of the tongue cancer, but because he already has a head coaching job which he will be resuming shortly. And I don't see the Lakers trying to poach him away unless its for boat loads of cash, or something. |

Coaching in general, I'd think Madsen has a great resume. iirc, he played 4 years of college ball, has coached in Minny... intellegent, eloquent & amiable. |

It's because of his reputation as a defender. People here automatically assume that because he was great defensively, somehow he'll be able to turn all of the perimeter players into absolute lock-down defenders. |

Have either of you considered that maybe it's not the recovery from tongue cancer but the turnaround between the WNBA and NBA seasons that might be why he's not a top candidate?
The WNBA Finals usually aren't until the second week of October -- the same time training camp usually starts. If Horry were to take the Dream deep into the playoffs, he would have little more than a few weeks of downtime before being forced back into the grind. That matters to coaches, least of all those who are supposed to be recuperating from surgery.
I wouldn't rule out him ever joining Byron's staff, but it looks extremely unlikely to happen this year. _________________ Lakers. Galaxy. Spurs. |

On a related note, it's somewhat surprising Lawrence Frank isn't on that shortlist, although after what ended up being a fairly underwhelming coaching search, it probably shouldn't be. _________________ Lakers. Galaxy. Spurs. |
