here are some other excerpts

Quote:
Serena Winters @SerenaWinters ·

Kupchak on @TheHerd, looking back on Mike D'Antoni: "I think he (D'Antoni) would agree it wasn't the perfect fit."

"I think we could be." -Kupchak's response to @ESPN_Colin asking if the Lakers are a playoff team.

"You may not measure up to Kobe's expectations as a player & if you don't & you're on this team. It's going to be a problem." - Kupchak

Mitch: "We got a real good, ... we got two good players in the draft."

Clarkson, come on down, you're the 13th roster spot on the Lakers.

"I think we could be" is not something you want to hear from a GM; its not Colin Cowherd talked about the Lakers being in title contention..... you made all the moves this summer and you ARE supposed to feel confident about the team making the playoffs...

^That's just who Mitch is. Always politically correct, always non-committal. How some of you still haven't squared that after all these years the man's been in charge beats me, but frankly, it doesn't matter.

First rule of managing expectations is "undersell, overdeliver". What does he (or Jim or Jeanie) have to gain from promising more than what this roster is capable of?

Exactly...

It baffles me when our own fans, let alone biased national beatwriters and analysts, don't get how Mitch operates after all these years.

"I think we could be" is pure Mitch -- a politically correct non-answer that people forget 10 seconds after hearing it because it doesn't mean anything. If Mitch said "We're definitely making the playoffs" -- it's a headline and talking point. If Mitch says, "We don't have a chance to make the playoffs" -- it's a headline and a talking point. And Mitch is never a headline -- if a corp. could program a robot to give polite, earnest-seeming, say nothing interviews, that robot would be a lot like Mitch.

How many times did he say "you know"? I'd guess at least 80

Even though he struck out on superstars, mitch quietly and quickly assembled a starting line up that would be starters on any team. Whether u dislike lin booze, n possibly beasely, they are starters on any team. If kobe returns to 90% kobe, u just never know wat could happen....we made the playoffs n almost went to the 2nd round with players like luke, kwame, smush. If kobe returns to form, he could carry this team far.

Great job interviewing by Cowherd, he didn't ask the usual softball questions.

You are deluded. Lin didn't start last year, Beasley couldn't get minutes on a team desperate for bench production, Boozer was the most hated man in Chicago and was progressively phased out for Gibson on a team desperate for talent (and he never played in the fourth). We're closer to the worst record than any kind of playoff run.

You didn't specify whether you mean D-League team or College team. I guess it could be both. They're that good.

Colin keeps it real. He gave a solid interview and left out the fluffy questions. I generally agree with Colin. A defensive minded coach, an offensive, then a defensive again. Basically Colin is saying we have no plan and no direction. He is right.

I respect Mitch's realistic outlook so much more than if he spouted blind homer nonsense of the John Ireland variety.

It was a good interview. Good question by Cowherd, and I'd like the responses by Mitch...better than any Ireland interview I ever heard that's for sure.
