What if I plan to go to Morocco? Seems like there is no cases of ebola for this west african nation. I guess I will be ok. |

Pretty sure Morocco is considered North Africa. However, a Liberian national infected with Ebola did travel to Morocco back in August and died there.

Morocco is one of the two countries still operating flights to and from Liberia. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

I was waiting for it to become an issue. It may have surfaced earlier, if it has I missed it.
Is Racism Playing A Role In The Panic Over Ebola

The first person from Liberia having Ebola was treated nonchalantly, he was Black. Some schools intimated if he'd been White he would have gotten better treatment. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I don't think it is race so much as nationalism.
For example, if the disease was reaching epidemic levels in China (say like the hysteria behind SARS) and a Chinese national infected an AMERICAN nurse, I guarantee you people would freak out the same way...regardless of the nurse's ethnicity. It's the fact that the infection has spread to an American on our soil that's drumming up the panic level. |

Yes but SARS was contained. There hasn't been a case reported since 2004. Why when diseases originate in Africa containment is slow or non existent? _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

China did a better job of containing SARS than countries in Africa have done with Ebola. The only reason they have any sort of medical treatment is probably because of foreign health workers going over there to setup temporary treatment centers. The medical facilities in Africa are basically non-existent. Also you have to factor the way the disease is being spread in Africa. The lack of education and corruption in the government are huge factors in why its out of control. |

Yes they did. Africa is a country with very little technology. It's raped of natural resources and minerals and ignored when the health of inhabitants is a concern. It's a country that needs help. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

From the first page of this topic:
We were less panicked then, I know, but still, The Onion sarcastically pointed out how our response to ebola is rooted in racism. _________________ I would rather have questions I cannot answer than answers I cannot question - Richard Feynman |

not cism. unless we're calling it Nursecism. i mean the way that texas mishandled that situation putting the nurses and even doctors at risk was pretty bad if you ask me.
Allowing the nurse to make a Ohio run fresh after, was a bit sketchy.
Duncan's mistake wasnt being a brown person it was going to texas to get help. Two places you go for ebola help. Maryland and the ATL. Thats...IT.
Anywhere else in the US is suspect at best.
They have not dealt with these cases before. All that lying about how well equipped they are was just that.... a lie. It doesnt matter if you have the facilities and the drugs. If you dont know how to use them properly because you have never dealt with ebola before. |
