Such an eye opener. IMO, if he didn't get injured, he would probably be a perennial all star or a HOF.

I didn't even know he was a Laker.

Basketball fans should watch this. I'm pretty sure the Jordan-Bowie debate will subside a bit.

I'm feeling old! I actually remember when he played for the Lakers.

The 1984 draft is known as arguably the best draft ever. A healthy bowie would make it near consensus best.

1996 was better. More all stars, all nba players and championships

He was awesome for us off the bench.

I wonder how good the Blazers could have been if Bowie stayed healthy. Heading into the 90s the Lakers and Celtics' reigns were coming to an end and the Blazers finally passed us. Bowie would have been in his prime years then.

Bowie did actually have a few good seasons when he played for the Nets.

To me, Oden is the bigger bust in Blazer history. Bowie, at least, played 10 years and the Blazers knew about Oden's medical history before they drafted him and still gambled.

Interesting tidbit from a 2012 SI article.

Quote:
The Oregonian reported Wednesday that Harry Glickman, one of the Blazers' founders and a member of the basketball operations staff in 1984, admits his team didn't just want Bowie over Jordan but also everyone's favorite TNT analyst ahead of His Airness.

“If you look back at the draft,” Glickman said, “if we hadn’t selected [Bowie], we wouldn’t have selected Jordan. We probably would have gone with Charles Barkley.”

Yeah Bowie's unique... the guy picked before him and after him... largely hurt him... But he had the talent.

Frankly Darko and Oden are bigger busts... With really Darko being the dumbest pick in draft history.

Carmelo, Bosh, Wade.... Those were the next 3 picks... What was Dumars thinking?

If he wanted big... go with Bosh... if he wanted a winner go with this kid named Melo who just won the NCAA tournament... if you want a scrappy DTown type player... go with the guy from Marquette who just completely overachieved with a lesser program in the tourney.

None of those guys had a better workout or history of tape?

I agree with everything but the Carmelo and winner in the same sentence I just don't buy.
