BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) -- Former NBA center Vlade Divac has undergone emergency stomach surgery in Serbia.

Doctors said Saturday in a statement that Divac was admitted to a Belgrade hospital after feeling ''strong pains in his stomach.''

The statement said his life was not threatened. It did not specify his exact health problem.

The 46-years-old Divac, who heads the Serbian Olympic Committee, started and ended his 16-year NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers. From 1989 to 2005 he played for the Lakers, Sacramento Kings and Charlotte Hornets, and was an All-Star in 2001.

I hope he's alright and it's not serious. Prayers to Vlade and his family.

I hope he's okay too, and not just flopping (sorry, couldn't resist).

I wonder if it was laparoscopic surgery or open surgery.......there's a major difference on both. I'm a surgical tech and trust me you don't want an open laparotomy as chances of infection are dramatically as they open up in layers just to get to the gastro layer and then being in Serbia you don't know what sterile techniques they use.
Hopefully v lade is well one my favorite lakers growing up.

Best Laker Centers

1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
2. Wilt Chamberlain
3. Shaquille O'Neal
4. George Mikan
5. Vlade Divac

(Pau Gasol = PF, but worth an honorable mention)

Prayers out to the big guy. Always one of my favorites, hope he gets over this soon. I remember him getting so amped when Magic would cheer him for making a big play. I know Shaq was a game changer, but this was a stat line of Vlade's a year prior to the big summer:
16pts 10.4reb 4.1ast 2.2blk 1.4stl 51%fg

How awesome would it be to have a center on this year's team with those numbers? Talk about a big contract. Anyway, hope things work out well.

No surgery is a good surgery so I wish #12 all the best.

BTW-I know i'm dating myself by referencing 'Alien', but there's an 'Alien' joke lost in this news somewhere but it's hella too soon for it.

Wish Vlade nothing but the best, total class act. I would love to have Vlade on any Lakers team. Vlade is the ultimate team player.

His name was Pau Gasol.

I really didn't wanna throw in "Pau was good but too bad he didn't get the turnovers Vlade did". For the most part Pau put close stats, but Vlade was a very balanced center that I'd love to have right now. Again, just props to Vlade.
