I saw a bit of him and know quite a few Raps fans who followed his game. The good about him is that he's quite athletic and is more of your modern day NBA big guy in that he's versatile. The bad is that he doesn't really have a real sound position on the court or what his role for a team would be. He doesn't have a knock down jumpshot or a reliable inside game. He'll finish stuff around the basket and is pretty solid at rolling and catching/finishing if there's room inside.
Mainly he was a quality pick up for the price the Lakers got him. However thus far he hasn't shown to be better than Jordan Hill on O. Hill is probably elite on one thing and that's cleaning up around the rim/scoring garbage man style. He was always really good at that. Davis hasn't shown anything like that on O, that's why he's a vet min guy.
Where I like Davis vs Hill is ability to block shots. I think Byron sees him as a C, and that's where he'll get most of his PT. |

They're almost identical in blocks per game it's just that Hill typically plays fewer minutes.
Jordan Hill: 1.5 blocks per 36 mins
Ed Davis: 1.6 blocks per 36 mins |
