So a friend of mine and I were discussing who will start at PG. Forget who we want to start, because he and I both agree that PG should be Jeremy Lin. Where we disagree, is on who will actually start.

My friend thinks it'll be Steve Nash because Byron Scott is an old school coach. I think it will be Jeremy Lin because well, to me that is the smart thing to do particularly from a continuity perspective.

What say you? And why?

(Assume both are healthy enough to play).

If healthy I think it'll be Nash, but his minutes will be limited especially with Lin ready to come off the bench. I honestly feel pretty good about this rotation of PGs and I think Clarkson will surprise us as well.

Considering Magic said Lin would be a great addition off the bench, and considering Byron and he are close and probably have the same mindset, I say Nash starts.

Only reason I don't think Nash should start is because of logistical reasons. Nash comes in and plays the first 6-8 minutes, then Lin is expected to play 30-32 of the last 40-42 minutes? Idk.

IMO it will be Lin starting and getting the most mpg. (30mpg ?)

Lin will provide more defensive activity and pressure. He is a decent playmaker and will get his opportunities to score. Takes a little bit of pressure of Kobe.

Nash plays with the second unit (Boozer, young, Davis) unless Clarkson can develop quickly and earn the mpg. Nash at 12- 15mpg would be ideal.

I think Nash can have a bigger overall impact staying healthy, mentoring and filling in if Lin gets injured or Clarkson has too many rookie moments.

Kobe needs a spot up shooter at Pg. Nash will start.

Initially, I picked Nash over Lin assuming they are healthy!
Then I read in:

Quote:
In another game on the calendar with reunion implications, L.A. will open the season against the Houston Rockets, according to sources. Bryant was injured for all four of the Lakers' games against Houston last season in Dwight Howard's first campaign with the Rockets after spurning L.A. in free agency last summer.

I changed my vote to Lin starting. Lin has a chip in his shoulder to play against Rockets.

Wouldn't you want nash off the bench running the second unit? Given his age I think he would have an easier time against their bench instead of their starters thus possibly extending his playtime.

I don't mind who's starting. I like both Steve Nash and Jeremy! I think healthy Nash should start and Jeremy can learn behind the Master!

Give it to Lin, Nash is unreliable, so I'd rather the team get used to Lin as the main PG.

It doesn't matter to me who starts as long as we win. Nash health will be a question and both Nash and Lin will probably share the load. I hope they both perform well and we come out with the W.

Wish it's Lin. Hate to see Nash start, then have to miss 3 games, then get his starting spot back, etc. Terrible for continuity and there's no doubt Nash isn't part of the future. Let Lin, Clarkson get a real look at the PG position.

Magic is probably one of the worse judge of talent. He pretty much panders to fans and whoever the current media favorite is, and when all things said and done when you look at what he said in hind sight, all of them cannot be more wrong. So whatever Magic said you have to do the opposite.

Start J-Lin, play Nash with the second unit and limit his minutes to make him more effective. This would allow Nash to play in more games and reduce wear & tear on his body as well.

Lin will start first game, we're playing the Rockets, then the Lakers stomp all over them, and Linsanity begins.

Nash shouldn't start as he can't play back to back games anymore. I don't want to have a different starting lineup every game. Start Lin and bring Nash off the bench for 16-20 mpg.

I think it is not important about who start, it is more important to build up the chemistry. That's why I'd pick Lin to start.

I think Nash will get the start. Even I will like Lin to be the starter.

Lin. Nash will be better suited coming off the bench and possibly closing out games depending on health.

with the little Nash has shown in these last couple seasons, i think the easy answer is Lin...if Nash starts ballin out and proves he is anywhere close to where he was a few years back while maintaining health, I can see him being named starter after a couple weeks in.

Lin should start. Nash can't physically play more than 15-20 mpg off the pine.

I'd like to see Lin and Nash in the backcourt together against the other team's bench players. Defense would be bad, but offense could be interesting.

With Boozer starting, so will Nash. Byron will likely run a more up tempo game with his 2nd unit and Lin is a better fit there than Nash. Lakers need reliable shooting in the starting lineup. Nash will start the season as the starter.

Nash will start because he's too old to come in cold off the bench, it's also better because he and Kobe compliment each other pretty well. Lin will come off the bench and finish the game but will get the majority of his minutes with the bench. Personally I like it because our bench could potentially be better than our starters.
