1. Nash healthy (even he is, refer to 2, 3)
2. Nash aging (at his end career, how much you wana him fight with "teenages")
3. Nash def (my opinion when Nash young it is not better than current Lin.)
4. Nash announced this is last season (pretty much to me, pre-retire season, why start him for team build?)
5. Coache Scott in interview told he is fan of Lin, and he also claim def will be our key for this season.
6. 1st game? see who is against us......
7. NBA wana drama. at certain point who do not wana? Linsanity 2.0 needs the down part then shoots up like R&R coaster after 2 black years in Houston. Trust me it will be fun. |

I don't know what's the point of starting Nash. Sure he was a great player, but he's been damaged goods for the lakers from day 1, contributed absolutely nothing nada, zilch. Now you have a promising new player who has shown he can play really well, even superstar stats when allowed to play, and you're going to slow his development for what? An old washed up player that didn't even really make Phoenix all that good in his prime?
I'm not sure why all the media wants Nash to start, but frankly, this is just bias on the media if you look at the roster on paper. It's a contract season for one promising and exciting player, retirement for another. It's time to start lin. It's not like Nash is as effective as Montana when Montana was about to retire. Yes I know, wrong sport, but that's what a pg is,the qb of the basketball team. |

Do you all really expect Nash to be healthy enough to start? We'll be like to get him for 15 minutes a game...if that. |

I expect that Lin will be able to beat out Nash for the starter role at this point in Nash's career. That's the criterion Scott has been projecting: who can beat out who for each starting position. Don't think Scott will pick for sentimental reasons. |

The evidence has shown that due to age/injuries, he's simply not durable. If he needs to keep his body warmed up, then go hit the bike until your number is called. It's a bad reflection of a "new mentality" when a starting position is given due to age, seniority, and past glory. Now, if Nash is healthy enough and can ward off Lin, then fine. But these past 2 years have shown that limiting Nash's minutes is a must. |
Agreed. If you want Nash for more than 20-30 games. You must control the minutes. Let the guy finish the season able to WALK. Its his last year, for the time he is on the floor he will give it his best but he ain't going to walk back father time.
Don't run him into the ground and ruin him for the rest of the year. |

Especially for older guys, it's not playing the minutes that kills them. It's waking up the next morning. |

Lin might be better at this point of their careers but physically it might make more sense to start Nash and play his old body while he's already warmed up. |

I Love Nash but at this point he needs to come off the bench rather than start. Besides his veteranship and skills will work best with our bench, plus when he needs games off its easier to bring in clarkson off the bench, instead of having to move Lin from the bench to the starting line-up and then back to the bench.
I unfortunately believe Nash will start just because i feel Byron will give the leadership to the veterans first.
Though on a side note i do hope Nash helps Lin develop a lot, Lin has that similar kind of deceptive game like Nash and could really improve from his advice. I mean heck look what Nash's advice helped do for Steve Blake |

Whoever starts doesn't really matter. Lin will get a lot of minutes starting or off the bench and whatever minutes you get from Nash is a bonus. Either will run the point well for the Lakers so feeling optimistic on this front. |

Nash will retire after this season. It doesn't make any sense to start him. Nash can teach Lin for sure. |

I think they'll give a nod to the MVP of old on his farewell season by allowing him to start on opening night. I don't think Lin will have any problem with that.
If he's finally healthy, I can see Nash platooning with Lin and playing maybe 15 minutes/night.
If he's no more durable then he's been the last 2 seasons, Nash is going to spend his farewell tour in warmup sweats or a suit.
Either way I'd expect Lin to get the lion's share of PG minutes. |

I think nash will likely start too and depending on his health, probably will have a hard time last through the season. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Mark Medina @MarkG_Medina · 2h
Besides Kobe, Scott said he doesn't know who else will start. He says they "have to earn the right to start."
well, there you have it. and considering what nash has done as a player, i wouldn't want it any other way. it'd be extremely disrespectful to him to just give away his starting spot without giving him a chance to keep it. |

as a team, you SHOULD care about respecting the players. we're the lakers.
and as a sign of respect, you let them battle it out. i'm not saying you start Nash out of respect. appeasing him wouldn't be respecting him at all. the player most deserving to start should start. period. ultimately that's what best for the team. |

Sure. But at age 40, health is as important as skill. Nash's skills are unquestionably elite, but his body isn't anymore. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

i don't think he is even if 100% healthy--it's all on the defensive end. jeremy lin isn't a defensive beast, but he has young legs, unrelenting defensive effort, and is simply not near the liability nash is. IMO he's actually underrated as a defender and byron scott even mentioned he liked what he saw from jeremy on the defensive end. nash even at 100% health may as well be a scarecrow. |

This. X2. Let's do it Jeremy. Let's see if Beverley can stop Lin from launching Linsanity II LA style. |
