I wish we had a prime Shaq on the Lakers next year..... I'm not saying this current team can't make a playoff run but having a sure dominate big would have been a huge plus for the Lakers.... every thing next year rides on rather Randle can immediately become a dominate big-man like Duncan did when he came into the league...

We win the championship with prime Shaq. This league is so damn weak, almost any with prime Shaq added is going to the finals.

I am glad someone in the media is not discounting Kobe out. It just seems like the major media outlets thinks Kobe is dead. Then again they're all about flaming, inciting clicks for revenue so how can they even remotely impartial.

Yeah I know I miss that ridiculous disregard for all human life that he had. Once in a lifetime kind of player.

6'11" and 260, made him look like a high school kid. Still, I believe Wilt and KAJ to have been better physical specimens than Shaq.

Dude has Kobe like body control and handles and is 7'1''. He has a complete game. I remember seeing LeBron at 16 and thought he'd be one of the top 20 players in the NBA as soon as he stepped on the court. It took him about half a season. I think Thon is better at 16 than LBJ was.

I've said this before, but I think Magic, Chuck, and Shaq are the 3 most unique players that I've seen. Magic and Chuck made you forget that they were the heights they were, they were complete outliers at their positions. Since their day, there have been reasonable facsimiles like Penny and Weatherspoon, but no one that has even touched their level of dominance. NBA TV has a current show with Mullin, Richmond, and Tim Hardaway. GS broke that up because they thought Billy Owens was a Magic like player. They even tried to portray Steve Smith in that light in his first couple of seasons.

A lot of people here rag on Shaq for his injuries (and his malingering). However, big picture, he had a full and long career. Chuck said this on one of those NBA TV panel shows. It's amazing how healthy Shaq WAS compared to the other big guys like Sabonis and Yao (not to mention Drew and Oden, etc). A guy with such immense weight being that lithe and athletic. In his prime, doing a crossover on that one stan from Seattle (John/Joe/James Jones, whatever). He did a shake and a spin move and dunk on Zidek in his first season here.

Amazing that Shaq didn't have any knee issues aside from landing wrong. He had a knee injury in 97 after coming down on Dean Garrett's foot with the toe of his shoe, which hyperextended his leg backwards. A clip that makes your testes retract, I have that game somewhere. It damaged multiple structures in his knee, but when he healed, it wasn't a recurrent issue. Anyway, aside from that, his knees were physiologically sound, which is something that all current NBA fans don't seem to expect from most new big guys. I think the only real Shaq injury in his PRIME was that abdominal strain in 98. He went up for a dunk and pulled a muscle. That kinda injury is bad because there's no timetable on healing and it could be reoccurring, but it only cost him 22 gms. Before he got here, he got hacked on the wrist by Matt Geiger and it injured a tendon in his thumb or something, but that was another injury that was caused by an external force.

CMB and I were both at the Knicks gm in 97 where he caught and spiked that ball that looked like it was over the board from every angle. I was sitting at midcourt, slightly down from Chick's perch.

Dear God! That's kid is scary good! I don't think there is an NBA player past or present who compares to his skillset and size.
