I got a number in mind that he can play and be very effective and play throughout the season, you know, and the good thing about this number is it keeps him fresh for that last month of the season where we go make that run, you know. And I'm sure he has a number in mind, that might be a little different than mine, and we're going to have to sit down and obviously come to an agreement. And once we do I'll say: "Kobe, alright, this is the number it's going to be, I'm not going to deviate from that number." Because for me, I got to make sure I look out for him.

My guess is that Scott plans to play him around 32 minutes, 8 minutes per quarter with 4 minutes rest, and that he'll end up playing just a little bit more, 34ish.

Whatever the number winds up at, I just hope it's dictated by BScott and not injuries.

Pop limits Tim Duncan, and Tony Parker to 30 minutes per. And limits Manu to 23.

I think around 30 for Kobe should be it. That's 7:30 per quarter.

This is why 25/5/5 is just not feasible. In order for Kobe to hit those marks he could not be on a minutes restriction.

Kobe has waved off substitution requests from every coach he's ever played for. I'm curious to see what BScott does when Kobe does this to him.

I know BScott has had a bit of a checkered past when it comes to the stars he's managed so on things like this, it will be interesting to see their dynamic.

Only numbers Scott (and therefore Kobe) cares about are the number of games Kobe plays and wins. I think Kobe will play closer to 30mpg overall with games where he will sit out. Who cares about getting "elite" numbers. Kobe doesn't need to prove that to people. He's been there and done that. Finish the race well.

28-30 is fine. Let Lin, Clarkson, Nick, Wes, and X soak up the rest.

I think Scott has the right approach. Work out a number with Kobe that they both are comfortable with and then there won't be any grumblings later. 30 seems to be the right number give or take a few minutes. If they are smart it will be such that there it spans Q1 & Q2 and Q3 & Q4 and not run 12 then 4 which really is goofy to me.

Time for the rest of the team to shoulder the load. Kobe can't destroy his body just so this team can make the playoffs. At his age he should get a maximum of 30 minutes. Only exceptions should be critical games in the playoffs.

I still would love to hear that discussion between Kobe and Scott...
Scott:" I think it will be about right for you to play 30 min/game"
Kobe:"Are you kidding? I play 53min each game. I'm ready" ...

He'll play 35. I don't see Kobe accepting any less.

He actually should do 30, specially at first. But Kobe won't go for that.

And that should do wonders for his body. I think he will accept the minutes limits. That's why they got Scott to "stand up" to Kobe.

Seems critical to watch kobe's mins at the beginning of the season and allow his body to adapt to competitive ball. I'm thinking 20 minutes in the preseason is a good start. Then gradually increase his minutes to 35 a game as the season goes along.

Its more important to dictate the style of game Kobe will play then put a cap on minutes. He should be guarding the weakest opposing player as well. If we play a slow tempo post up game with Kobe there is no reason he can't play 35 a game once his body is fully adapted to competitive ball. Sitting him out on back to back games is a good strategy as well if we are in a playoff position and have a few games lead over the next team.
